I got mine yesterday, a twenty-ish pounder with a 10" beard and 1"
spurs, which is decent if not spectacular. Good thing, the season ends
here tomorrow!

Got mine on the 20th and 21st of April this year in western South
Dakota. I got two birds the first day, and two birds the second day.
The third day I had a shot at one, as his head was above the pile of
branches and I was waiting for him to clear the pile, but got busted
moving too much, and that was it. My best bird had a 10" beard, with
just over one inch spurs. It was still a lot of fun.

Man that is a lot of turkey!!! In Michigan you have to apply for the
tag in January and are allowed to kill one bearded bird in the
spring. You can also apply for a fall permit and that is one either
sex bird. Our seasons run staggerd from the end of April till the end
of May and are 1 week in length for the early season public land tags.
2 weeks for the early private land tags. The late season public land
is 3 weeks and so is the late season general tag that allows you to
hunt public or private land with restrictions on some parts of the
state for public land. Congratulations on a successful season.

We don't have nearly as many turkey hunters out here, so our season is
very liberal. I had 7 tags, and they were for any sex of bird. The
season opened on April 12th and closes May 17th, I think. That is for
the areas in the far western part of the state, there are split
seasons on the eastern and south central area of our state. We have a
fall season as well, and that is also very liberal. It is gaining
popularity out here. There still are not that many hunters that hunt
the plains, but the Black Hills is a very popular place to hunt
turkeys for residents and non-residents alike. I had a Black Hills
tag, but when I was out there, the weather was kind of crappy. Plus,
probably half of the roads were still snowed in, so it was very
difficult to get up to some places where I have traditionally gone out
there for turkeys. Anyway, time to shoot prairie dogs now. Good luck
on all upcoming seasons.
