Question for the group
Doug
with you all about group decorum. I recently listed some vintage goose
decoys for sale on eBay. However, a quick look at the topics doesn't
reveal any sales going on here. Is selling merchandise here frowned
upon or would that be acceptable here? If it's okay, I'll post; if
not, I won't.
Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Sales by individuals is allowed as long as they keep it under
control. What most frown on is the continued sending of messages that
are nothing more than advertising blurbs for a hunting or gun related business.
Selling stuff on eBay is a tricky subject here since some of us feel
that eBay is basically anti-gun. They have banned the sale of guns,
most gun parts, ammo and components and seem to be adding more gun
related items to their list on a regular basis.
For now I guess that you can make a posting about your goose decoys on eBay.

To answer your question, yes, I think discussion of decoys is
interesting and within the idea of "recreational hunting." Sell
decoys or anything related to hunting seems okay, too. In fact, since
we aren't moderated, who's going to ever say "no"? You just vote by
reading the thread and posting, or not.
Vintage goose decoys are possibly a niche market that takes time to
sort out. But I know some have homemade duck decoys and probably at
least are interested in decoys that can be restored. Probably add a
couple goose decoys to their ducks. I'm sure some collect vintage
stuff like that. bookburn

This is a moderated group and there are two moderators. I am one and
the other is Chris Barnes who is also the list owner. There are no
commercial interests involved at all unlike many, if not most, of the
message boards I have seen. The newsgroups are slowly dying due to a
lack of interest in discussion groups that are text based. Many
InterNet Service Providers are also dropping the newsgroups and
direct their clients to seperate usenet providers. This extra step
alone makes it harder for internet users to find these groups.
The moderators do get involved and do not send anonymous eMails about
decorum. Any eMails sent contain the identification of the moderator.
As to the history of the group anyone interested can start to take a
look at the archives which will be listed in my signature file. I
check for new messages at least once a day, and frequently three
times. The lag from the time I check and approve a message and the
time it shows up in the actual group is between 1 and 3 minutes.
By the way, in the last 48 hours there have been 3 messages to
approve and 8 messages, with the same subject line, promoting male
enhancement products. There is still a need to have someone block the
spammers and the anti-hunters who attempt to start arguements.
