This intrigues me. I'm not, sadly, going to be in a position to enjoy the
Lodge's hospitality - at least not this season. But I'm in the UK, and
aside from deer stalking - or "hunting" (for woodland management, mainly,
and that woodland-managed venison cooks well) and small game and ducks or
geese for the pot, I'm a member of a pheasant shooting syndicate.
We have some land, do our own gamekeeping, put down maybe 900 birds a
year of which we'll shoot something over 2/3 in 12-13 formal driven
Saturdays, and various informal rough shoots. The maintenance of the
shoot during the off-season and the "craic" amongst the Guns and beaters
is as much a part as the pheasant on the table.
How is pheasant shooting organised in the US ? Or other places
contributors can tell us about ?
