No, no. By disassembling it. Turn the top level 45 degrees and any
middle piece just popped right out if you use a flat-head screwdriver.
You could then slip all of the pieces out and reassemble it.

Little amoral anarchistic bastards they were.

Ended in the early 80s, really.

I miss the early "we don't have original programming" Nickelodeon. The
Third Eye, What Will They Think of Next, etc.

> You know the profound meaning of "Wax on,Wax off"

Look eye! Always, look eye!

> You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell

And yet, he was still vaguely creepy.

> You took Lunch boxes to school

Paper bag, always a paper bag.

> You have pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf

And you wonder how often she smurfed and with how many smurfs, or did
she just smurf?

> You remember Punky Brewster

Somehow I missed the whole segment between the show and her breast
reduction surgery.

> You remember "I've fallen...and I can't get up!"

Better: "Where's the beef?"

> "Where's the BEEF!!??"

Ah, there we go.

> You had or went to a birthday party at McDonald's

Who remembers Farrell's?

> You remember watching The Cosby show

And more, you remember that much of the material from the first
half-dozen episodes was lifted from Cosby's standup special, "Himself."

> Acid-washed jeans

Still have a pair. Somewhere.

I bussed tables there one summer. That taught me to *always* tip. About
2/3 of the patrons saw no need to tip. By that point the IRS had decided
to prevent waiters from underreporting tip income by assuming a certain
income based on the amount of food sold (I don't know how that was
determined, but the employers had to report something). So the wait
staff had to pay taxes on tips they never received.

I usually tip, and the amount is based on the service received. Only
one time in recent memory did I not tip. I was at an (overpriced)
restaurant, and was one of only three patrons there at the time. It
took me a whole three minutes to look through the menu and decide what
I wanted to order, and then I sat for another fifteen minutes while
the waiters stood with their backs to me and shmoozed with each other.
After I finished my appetizer (as could be seen by the empty plate),
it took them another ten minutes to come and ask if I was done. This
type of service continued throughout the meal. The only thing that
came quickly was the check - in the middle of desert. I can
understand that when things are busy, service suffers, but this was
off-time - the place was virtually empty. After I paid the check
(with no tip) and was walking to the car, a waiter actually came out
after me and asked if I had forgotten to leave a tip. I explained
very calmly (and very loudly) that I had left the tip that their
service had earned.

I used to work as a waiter, and I learned really quickly that if the
customers weren't happy, they wouldn't tip.

I recall a restaurant in NYC where our waiter sloshed a pitcher of water
on our table when we asked for water, got spaghetti sauce on a member of
our dining party, and was, in general, rude and unhelpful in all other
matters.

At the end of the meal my husband tipped 10% -- MUCH more than he
deserved. He had the gall to approach my mother and insist that she make
up the difference in the tipped amount. We regret not asking for the tip
back!

I have never omitted a tip. But I have on the occasion of abysmal service
left two pennies or a nickel.

That sounds like it might be a better method - I'll keep it in mind!

That makes it clear that it was an intentional critique of the service
and not
an oversight. I used to see that when I bussed tables - usually when
one
waiter was finishing up a table for another whose shift had ended, and
could
care less what tip the other got.

I once helped with a fancy charity dinner, and in the whopping overpriced
bill that our organization (an established charity organization with 501(c)3
and all that) received from the caterers, they demanded both 15% tips AND
15% gratuity.

We scratched our heads over that one.

And no, we didn't pay BOTH, especially considering the lousy service.
