this one deserves a catalog as well,

Indeed. They are beautiful objects with fine heraldry. I am just
flicking through the Louvre 2004 catalogue of their exhibition on
"Paris 1400, les arts sous Charles VI", no 104 is of a similar hanap
from Maubuisson dated c 1390-1400 bearing the central arms Gules a
castle of three towers Or impaled with Azure a fleur-de-lis Or. The
data base you point to may have it and others.

There is also a fine Limousin gemellion at the Met:

This one can also be found in the Metropolitain Museum of Art
catalogue: "Enamels of Limoges, 1100-1350", 1996, p 374, no 131 (well
worth a read).

The Met actually has an even finer heraldic one with seven shields,
the central one being of Alphone de Poitiers (France impaling
Castille) dated to second half of 13th century. (Idem, p 375, no 132,
I am not sure whether it is online). There are lots of similar
heraldic items, eg caskets, from Limoges in this period, not least the
famous Le Mans effigy of Geoffrey of Anjou >1151 (Idem, p 98, no 15,
to be seen at

Yes Derek,
because of this "Le Mans effigy of Geoffrey of Anjou"
I went out to search for more items like this,
because I just couldn't believe that this one should be the first and
only one
out there!

now I know it isn't, and that there are many more from the same
period,
the only reason they still exist
is that they are made from copper and emaille (Champlevé enamel,
Gilded copper)!

Maybe someday we are changing the time-line of it all!
