Any particular reason that you're not willing to simply put threads on the one
you've got?

Good question Brian. There's a lot of variation with AK details, one of them
is muzzle details. Some of the AK barrels were turned down to a smaller
diameter to make them more resistant to post-consumer modification. Plus,
many eastern european countries made minor dimensional changes to the barrel
profile. That said, his barrel may lack sufficient wall thickness to simply
cut the 14x1 LH threads himself. See
http://www.aa-ok.com/AK_Tech/aktechinfo.htm for several examples.

Surplus take-off barrels are still still on the secondary market, but prices
are rising since the import ban several months ago.

Hopefully the prices are high enough to entice domestic barrelmakers to
offer replacements in original configuration.

Note to JTrade-be certain to do your legal research first.

Sorry, Ray.
You're right. I missed the obvious answer!

You should of heard some of the reasons I came up with, a buddy gives
you a box of ammo you need the gun to shoot it in then there was Y2K, a
god sent for gun buyers. Wish it came every year. It wouldn't take much
convincing for me to believe that was concocted by a gun enthusiast
with a penny pinching wife. Now we have the mother of all pre fab
reasons (The N. Koreans Are Coming, Run For The Hills but First Don't
Forget To Buy More Guns) I love it...

9/11/01 has normalized the gun "culture", though.
