I'm going to be living in my fraternity house next quarter (I'm in college, and its off campus). I want a small gun safe to keep my handguns in but I dont have room for a big safe and bolting a small safe to the ground could pose issues with the house. I think the best option is to get something that will not be noticible. Nobody in the house will know I have the guns there so as long as they are out of sight and somehow locked it will be fine. I remember about 2 years ago seeing a small safe that was built into a wooden bench. It was very discrete and while the bench top is closed up it looks like a thick solid chair that would go at the end of your bed but if you pull the top open, its got a safe inside. Does anyone know where I can find this? I've googled "discrete safe" "hidden safe" etc and nothings popped up.
Thanks guys.
Jason

Jason: Anything small would be too portable and not secure. To be secure, it has to be disguised, as you point out. Look for a piano bench that is small enough to look like a nightstand. All piano benches have a "hidden" compartment under the top, big enough to store several handguns. With a little bit of cleverness, you could install a little lock and turn it around backward so the keyhole was facing the wall. - CW

I googled hidden safe without the quotes and got 11,200,000 hits.
Someone once told me the very best "security" you can get is secrecy.
Someone else was discussing the killing of some "protected" species of bird that was a predator to a friend's flock and recommended the "three S" method of getting rid of the problem.
Shoot Shovel & Most folks tell on themselves. Shut up!
There are lots of ways to conceal a weapon in a home, but don't expect any of them to be "fool proof" for someone who suspects its presence and really wants to find it.
Wall safe covered with a picture, towel, curtain, etc. Floor safes covered by a rug, stove, refrigerator, couch, etc.
It really will depend a lot on your roommates. If they like to clean and rearrange furniture you have more of a problem.
To name them all is to tell the bad guys where to look. THINK. Find a place that suits YOU. Then, SHUT UP about it. Tell one friend. He/she tells three, each of them tell three and next thing you know everybody knows, but you just don't know they know, because YOU only told ONE person whom you really trusted!
The best place to hid it might be a place that is a bit difficult to get to. Most people are too lazy to do much work to find out your business. Just don't put it where someone can stumble into it accidentally.
Hope this helps.

Buy a cheap safe, fill it with bricks and leave it where someone would find and steal it first....

How about a safe inside your locked suitcase? The suitcase could be loaded with bricks and a (tricky) mootion sensor alarm. All college people have to have a suitcase handy. You want an old, used , decrepit suitcase not worth stealing and instantly recognizable from a distance. .

Although any safe is better than no safe at all, a portable safe such as this one can be loaded onto a pickup or into a SUV by one guy with a handtruck. The entry into it can then be achieved elsewhere. Since the OP said he can't bolt to the floor then I think concealment is his only option. The one in your URL has some concealment potential but I doubt it'd fool a searcher for long, it's just too obvious.

Maybe, but it does fit the OP's constrants. At 375 lbs empty, it's considered portable, with a handtruck, as you say, but I don't know too many smash and grabbers who can single-handedly carry one out empty let alone loaded full of stuff without a handtruck. You want to make a 375 lb safe a 1000 lb safe? Add 625 lbs of lead. And that's less than a cubic foot of lead.
Anyone who is able to steal the whole safe is going to be able to steal almost any safe under 1000 lbs unless it's bolted to cement or *in* cement.

I bolted mine to the floor AND added about 500 pounds of linotype. I suspect if it's ever defeated it will be by going through the door.
