There is an interesting video about legislative attempts to go further on the subject of lead in condors in California.

This video is from August of 2012, but the subject (and the condors!) is not dead.

The story is that the tree huggers don't want to let science intrude into their values.

Another interesting development is the recent declaration by the US Fish and
Wildlife Service that windfarms will not be prosecuted for inadvertently
harassing or even killing endangered California condors.

I suppose "green" trumps condors, but condors trump lead.

There was a group of concerned environmentalists invited to tour sites of proposed wind
generators in MN. There was concern for possible injury to eagles, which are not endangered.
Those in the survey concluded they foresaw little or no potential threat.

Nice to say but the wind turbines in northern Ca were modified to scare
off the eagles that flew through the pass on the way to the northern
lakes and hunting fields. As I recall, they put on noise makers, might
have been flashing lights.

But California and Arizona both forbid lead ammunition use within the
range of the Condor. So what's left Nevada?

They forbid HUNTING with lead ammo. Not target shooting.

There is a noticable difference

Why haven't we heard stories of other vultures having similar problems?

Condors don't eat targets. Rabbits don't eat lead bullets.
Condors eat road kill and dead by mishap in the wild.
The lead was taken out of hunting so a near kill won't be eaten
by a condor.

So the looney bins are blowing smoke to cry out for something.

All Vultures despise lead. This is why Politicians try to ban guns and ammunition.

Back to the origin of this thread, re: content of lead in condors. There's
a very interesting study by the MN DNR regarding the comparison of various
types of rifle and shotgun ammo and where they found lead in deer carcasse
