And it's actually written in a favorable light, in a liberal rag.
Good job all around!

Another 2 bite the dust before they go on to more violent crime

If it looks like an assault rifle, it must BE an assault rifle. At least
that's the general rule for reporters, I guess.
Since they didn't show a picture or mention the make and model, it could
have been almost any "black" rifle.

With some members of the press, a Ruger 1 chambered in 223 would be an
assault weapon.
Interestingly enough, when this was reported on the local news that morning,
they identified the weapon as a rifle. It wasn't even called a high-powered
rifle. Just a rifle. Guess the kid dying made it newsworthy and they
couldn't demonize the security guard.

I think it was in the original message which I can't find. I don't get much
sleep lately maybe I was thinking about something else.

A Google news search pulled up 4 actual articles. (The search results
page showed 1 article with "show all 21 news articles" under it. Gee,
Google would not be lying about how effective they are at finding
things, would they?)
The first article I read said the guard fired 11 times.
This one says the guard used an SKS, and that he was 20.

The Morning News made up for the balance, "as he was trying to escape",
implying the driver was murdered.

I found the original message where I learned about the incident. It mentions
"AK" in the subject but when I re-read the original article all I can find
is assault rifle' I Googled the story and the only place I can find a weapon
type is: http://www.star-telegram.com/news/story/256689.html which claims it
is an SKS.

You are being charitable in your assessment.

And what exactly is a joke?
....including even a Ruger 10/22 with a Choate stock and Butler Creek 30
round magazine.
When one takes into account just how fast and loose with the facts the
average journalist all to often is regarding a gun incident, it does not
cast a flattering light on the rest of his reporting.

# Does Texas state law allow for someone under 21 to be armed with a handgun?
It is possible. Security guards must be licensed to carry a handgun.
They generally have to be 21 or older, but they can be 18-20 if they
meet educational standards or are in the military or honorably discharged.

Around the time of the '94 Pro Crime bill, a local newsrag ran a list
of "assault weapons" (sic) that included a Raven .25.
