Browning Buck Mark Camper frame sizes

grip. This grip is a single piece of material that surrounds the backstrap.
I bought a two-piece set of wood grips online. To my great
dissapointment, they were about 0.05 inches too long in the rear. The
wood grips did not form a continuous surface with the backstrap.
This pistol has a 515MPXXXXX serial number, which according to the
Browning Secret Decoder Ring means it was built in 2008.
Did the frame size change at some point in time, or between models?
Is there any way to tell which aftermarket grips will fit? The web
sites that sell them seem to assume that all Buck Marks will accept the
same grips.
BTW, I have spent about two hours researching this question. :^(

Something to do with moisture, I believe. Just isn't like machining
plastic or metal. No matter what you do to it or how dry it is when
it's worked, wood is going to move. A grip frame's outside dimensions
probably isn't something held to tenths, either, particularly if it's
a casting or extrusion.
If you're really unhappy, return them! Or trim them down to size
carefully, I've done that with quite a number of stocks that didn't
quite fit.

Don't know what you did on installing them. I like the rubber grip
but when I went to take mine off to mark my name inside a spring
popped off that took me a while to figure out how to reinstall. Not
much recoil from a Buckmark but I don't like wooden grips as they
either abraid or add recoil to my hand.

I'm aware of that, but in this case, the width of the grips (front to
back) is too large by 5%. The two grips are as close to mirror images
that I can't measure a difference. The top-to-bottom dimension is spot on.
The buyer said she would exchange them for a pair that she has that it
slightly smaller. She said she has sold hundreds of wood Buck Mark
grips with no complaints, so maybe I got a set that wasn't machined
correctly.
They look like they were cut on a router (not that I'm an expert). They
look like the better-quality wood products that are imported from Mexico
or Brazil. You can find them on eBay, which is where I got them.

Oh, yeah, that was fun. I wasn't expecting it, but I have learned to
disassemble things over a tray.

I can't say that I notice a difference, but that kind of thing is
personal. Wood grips seem to be standard for 1911s, along with a solid
steel backstrap. Other centerfires go more for the wrap-around polymer
style.
The advantage of wood grips in this case is that Mrs. Casey has small
hands. The standard polymer grip adds a few tenths of an inch in
circumference.

Just put some masking tape on the backstrap and carefully sand down
the excess wood and you will have a set of grips that fit your
Buckmark exactly.
I have never come across a pair of aftermarket grips...especially
wood...that fit "perfectly"...sometimes you have to put in a tiny
amount of effort and get your hands dirty!

I got another set that fit perfectly. I still don't know whether
different Buck Marks have different frame sizes, or I just got a QA
washout the first time.
