I like most RIG Universal Grease users was hating the fact Jackson
Safety stopped making it. However I learn that Jackson Safety has
sold the whole RIG gun care line to Birchwood Casey. You can reach
Birchwood Casey at 1-800-328-6156 Ext 7934. Just thought I'd spread
the good news.

Never having even heard of Rig Universal Grease, and thus never used it,
what's so great about it

Blasphemer!!
LOL Actually it is a very good grease for coating your firearms to protect
against corrosion, especially if you need to store them unattended for
extended periods. I guess you could call it the civilian equivalent of
cosmolene.

It's the same stuff as extreme pressure lube used in constant velocity
joints in front wheel drive cars but you get a pound of it for your
money rather than a crappy little tube...

Yup. I once got an all expense paid 3 year trip to the Philippines,
courtesy of Uncle Sugar and wasn't allowed to take my guns. I left them in
Missouri, smeared with Rig. When I came back and opened the case, there
wasn't a single speck of corrosion. Good stuff.

It's a real old-timey product that's been around since at least the
'20s, was one method for preventing rust from corrosive primers if you
couldn't get hot water down the bore right away. It was good for
preventing rust on casting reels and other precision items exposed to
weather, salt spray and acid fingerprints. A wipe with a "RIG rag"
was one way to keep guns on display in a shop from getting rusted up
from customer handling. There are other greases and rust
preventatives available these days but RIG still delivers. It used to
be a staple on the shelf at sport shops, part of every gun cleaning
kit just like Hoppes. Being part of the Birchwood Casey line makes a
whole lot of sense, let's hope they can merchandise it better than the
last owner. I think the biggest problem is that once you've bought a
tube of it, you've pretty much got a lifetime supply. A thin coat
does the job.

Hadn't thought of that. LOL. I haven't bought any in years. I got a
small container about 20 years ago and there is still most of it left. A
little goes a long way.
