## I don't watch much TV and actively dislike crime dramas, else I might
## have picked up on this earlier. Has anyone noticed lately a rash of
## TV characters calling a weapon "semi-automatic" (one shot per trigger
## pull) for something that was obviously full auto (multiple shots per
## trigger pull)? The most recent was an episode of Hawaii Five-O, where
## thugs robbed a delivery truck with what was obviously full auto
## machine guns, which were later described as "semi-automatic". It's
## starting to bother me. Once or twice might be a mistake, but it's
## almost like someone is making a concerted effort to change the
## terminology. So, if a machine gun is semi-auto, what would full auto
## be? It pulls the trigger for you?

I was called for jury duty late last year. "How many of you will have
difficulty convicting with no forensic evidense?" No hands. "How
many of you watch CSI?" Lots of hands, including mine. "Number, ah,
24, Mr <I forget, don't care>, how beleivable are these shows?" He
holds his arms out away from his sides. "Hollywood," he titls one
arm, "Reality," the tilts the other way. Gog a laugh from everyone
except the now convicted felon sentenced to 15 years.
Ah, you walk into a "Stop & Rob" and buy a beer. Walk back in a
minute later and hold the door for a guy with what later turns out to
be a full-auto "mini" Uzi (hot off the Mexican border). Gun guy
points at cashier, beer guy hands him a bag. Cashier puts $18 in the
bag. Gun guy hits him with the gun. Guys high-five and walk out. Oh,
and beer guy looks up at the camera and flips it the bird, then gun
guy does the same. All presentd and trial and not well refuted by the
defense. They argued that he was high on meth and PCP (PCP????). Show
of hands please. Not guilty?
