They sent me a DVD and I didn't think much about it and I never viewed
it. Now they're trying to collect on it. This sounds like a scam to
me. I didn't order it and I thought it was a freebie for joining up
this year. I don't know what I did with it and I don't think even if I
find it, I should pay the return postage.

Anybody else have this happen to them?

[MODERATOR: This practice gets reported here periodically, and
I had this occur within the last year too. The consensus has
always been that it is a stupid practice (even if one that may
net something for them else it would stop as not economically
viable to continue) and you should just ignore them. They will
eventually go away. That kind of advertising isn't how I would
run things, but we are in no danger of me being in charge.]

Been a few years and at the time it was a video tape of a History
Channel gun show. Annoying.

If merchandise gets sent to you through the mail and you didn't order
it, they can't do anything to you except nag you to collect. Been the
law for many years. You don't have to spend your money to send it
back. They sent some VHS tape one time that way. I didn't bother to
send it back or even respond. Take the nag letters, circular file
them, get on with your life. Whatever they sent is YOURS.

Would seem to me to be counterproductive as far as raising money,
ticking off far more potential donors than you'd collect from. Maybe
that's the idea and the guys sending out the stuff are on the other
side. Where's my tinfoil hat...

I'm no lawyer but it is my understanding that if you receive
unsolicited items you do not have to pay for them or return them. They
are gifts.

Thanx. I thought it was a gift when I got it but I was concerned when
the bills for it started arriving. They also sent me a cheesy coin that
I gave to one of my grandkids. I suppose they'll bill me for that too...

Yep, I fortunately still had the disk so I cut it in half with a pair
of heavy duty shears and sent it pack in the dunning letter return
envelope.

Well, do what the Postal Inspectors recommend and file a complaint. The NRA
is not sancrosanct.

Quote: "Furthermore, it is illegal for a company that sends you unordered
merchandise to follow the mailing with a bill or dunning communication."

They tried this on me and I told them where to get off. Whoever came up with
this idea at the NRA ought to be fired. It's annoying as hell, illegal, and
wasteful of my time and their resources.

Cut off your nose just to spite your face there.

Just send it back to them (uncut in half) on their dime. And we sometimes
wonder why the other side does so good.

I would have but it wouldn't fit in the envelope uncut.

Well, you should have taped it to a brick then with a NRA return label
affixed to it like all of the other "supposed" gun owners do who proudly
crow about sticking it to the greedy NRA afterwards.

I'm honestly surprised that a one year membership to the NRA is still only
$35 after hearing crap like that.

Yep. Gotcha. Right in there.

I am an LIFE NRA member. For a looooooooooooong time, back when it
cost about $275 or so.

A very long time ago, the fool-ios sent me this absolutely BUTT UGLY
calendar with a GIMME envelope. Into the trash it goes.

Later, they sent me this interesting VHS tape (a LONG time ago); I was
thrilled. Then I saw the GIMME envelope. I was so p_ssed.
Soooooooooooo! p_ssed!!! It, too, went into the trash without ( !
swear to GOD ! ) even looking at content.

When they sent me some hate mail for the payment, I sent a freaking
BLISTERING letter back (a hobby of mine; I consider it to be a public
service.)

It must have impressed somebody, because some major pencil neck geek
type called me (my letter must have been to the pint!) and I just
dumped the whole load regarding manipulation, etc. and so forth.

He told me he would "take me off the list" (WTW-evah that is) so that
they would send me no more cr-p.

And... THEY HAVEN'T IN 15+ OR SO YEARS.

I bought a life membership with the somewhat Pollyanna P.O.V. that
they would take my bucks, invest them, and Fxxx the Hxxx Off. Not
so. But after that conversation with the stuffed shirt, I've never
had another "event." Gee! They understand a LOST CAUSE! Amazing.
{ seriously! }

The law says that if you didn't order it, you get to keep it. I've
studied persuasion and communications enough to smell manipulation
when it slaps me 'cross the chops.

Homey don't do dat, and Homey don't let nobody do it me.

So there. Bite me, Mr. NRA. Stuff your ugly duck and dog calendar!

Everybody is right, in that you may consider it a gift, but I'm curious as
to whether these are the Rob Pincus Personal Firearms Defense DVD series. I
got one, watched it, paid for it, and now get one about once a month. I've
returned a lot of them, but most of them are quite good and very
educational. Just saying.

Moderator is correct... I got one probably 2 years ago from the NRA with
bills later.. Law says if you didnt order it you dont have to pay for it
or send it back...Even though I'm a Life Member I rarely agree with
their 'marketing'
