Looking for LPP, CCI or Winchester preferred. Went to a 3 day gun and
knife show found 4 boxes of 1000 $40.00 each. I paid $18.00 each 2
years ago. Any change in the future to normal pricing?
Just a little upset.
Happy shooting,
Ken

Note two things:
One. Large Pistol Primers cost $30 per Thousand.
Two. Every one of them is sold out.
If you wanted primers at $18/1000 you should have bought them two
years ago. Sorry.
Rots of Ruck Phil. Err Ken!
The whole ammo and reloading components situation has gone well past the
ridiculous stage.
A bunch of people got spooked after Obama's election and started buying up
the supply of everything, apparently thinking that Obama was going ban guns,
and make ammunition and reloading illegal or that he would cause a collapse
so horrendous that they would be able to trade a try of primers for a loaf
of bread.
And the worst part is the people doing the hoarding aren't the dedicated
shooters and reloaders. So far this panic has only worked to the advantage
of the manufacturers and dealers who're demanding and getting 100% to 200%
mark-ups on the stuff.
I went beyond a little upset to furious months ago!
I think that $40 per 1000 is the normal pricing now. When they are available
from normal retail sources that seems to be the price. I think most people
are happy just to find them any more. I bought primers for $1 to $1.25 per
hundred for so many years it makes sense for the price to go up but I do
believe a four fold increase is excessive.
As far as the future goes who knows.
George in Las Vegas
They were selling for $40-65 per K a few months ago.
Buy what you NEED and hang on for a bit.

I have a box of a thousand, (actually just the carton) that has a sticker on
it indicating 8.00 and change. You should have bought then!
They should be around $ 25 to $ 30 from the prices back when the gun shows
had them in North Carolina about a year ago. Last couple of shows I was at
did not have any at all or they may have been sold out as I got there about
an hour after they opened. I have some from about 10 years ago that were
around $ 12 a box.
I bought some reloaded 223 for less than $ 100 for 500 rounds a number of
years ago. I bought a new AR15 several months ago and looked around and
decided that some reloaded rounds for $ 40 per 100 was less expensive than
finding the bullets, brass and powder. I had plenty of primers at home at
that time.
Really hirts to think I bought powder for around $ 3 or $ 4 per pound. But
at that time I think that was all I was making an hour.
If you'll compromise on your brand preference and use Wolf primers (they are
very good quality) they have them at http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/ right
now for only $25.50 per thousand. Another source to keep track of is
www.wideners.com as they frequently get in shipments of Wolf primers and
sell them for $29.00.
Stan
Incidently the same dealer was getting 19.95 for one pound cans of
Alliant powder.
