bra strap stops bullet

Sunday thanks to her seat belt and a thick bra strap, authorities said.
Robin Key, 44, of Riverview, Fla., was shot through the windshield of the
car she was riding in Sunday. She said she felt a searing pain in her
shoulder.
Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said a .38-caliber bullet smashed
through the windshield then bounced off Key's shoulder - thanks to a seat
belt and a thick bra strap.
The copper-jacketed slug landed in her lap.
"It's a big bullet, but you had all those forces acting against it,"
Hillsborough sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway told the St. Petersburg
Times. "It's very rare that something like that occurs. She's very lucky.
You know, we're just glad she came out OK."
Key said she didn't know why anyone would shoot her. Sheriff's deputies
later arrested two men in connection with the shooting several hours later.
Authorities said they do not have a motive for the shooting.

so the bullet traveled through the windshield the seatbelt and was
stopped by a brastrap
ya know sometimes i shoot at phonebooks and its amazing how page 673 is
bulletproof sometimes but i dont say "bullet stopped by phone book page"

First,I'd like to know how the police determined it was a .38 cal bullet
and not a 9mm.(especially after going thru the windshield)
Did they recover a revolver?
Second,I doubt the bra strap is what did the stopping;the pic I saw of the
seatbelt did not show any penetration,so,I'd say the BELT did the stopping.

...I'd guess there's a fair chance that they did.

To say that any one obstacle "did the stopping" would be a gross
over-simplification. In any event, the article cites both the seat
belt AND the bra strap as combining to stop the bullet.

a bra that exposed the areolas of a 38DD! 33 years later, I remember the experience
vividly. A few months later, we got married.
These days, all I get to fondle are my guns, but not even my AR-10-T is as exciting as a
38DD.

Can be done through a couple layers of clothing, even. Getting the
release without using your hands, though, that's advanced stuff, and
probably beyond the patience of teenagers.

they ran it thru a lab and released the info that quick???
(it reminds me of the CSI TV shows where the on-scene evidence collector
picks up a bullet and says "9mm" without measuring it in anyway.)

Requires measurements.
One would need a reference book or PC database to get such data,it's not
something that is easily apparent.Not all .38s use the same rifling,I
suspect.
The bullet must have lost a LOT of velocity before it hit the
windshield,considering it would not penetrate a seatbelt,and apparently was
not deformed much.Or it could have been a .380 95 gr. bullet with low
terminal energy/velocity.
Perhaps a stray round from some gangbanger or moron shooting into the
air,not any intentional targeting of the person in the vehicle.
