I ordered a Tokarev from Royal Tiger Imports and am having difficulty
getting them to accept a return. Does anybody have experience with these
folks. I was careful and asked questions before purchase. I think they
made a simple error, but I'm having doubts.

No experience with them, but I note that their return policy is pretty
militant. From their website:

"Returns are very costly to our Company. We make every effort to
insure your order is shipped accurately and the product meets the
standards of our advertising. If a return must be made, please note
the following policy:

No Returns will be accepted after 30 days of the invoice date.
A Return Authorization number must be obtained before making any
return.
Return Shipping Charges are the customers responsibility. If the
wrong product was shipped by our error, a UPS call tag will be issued
to return the item(s).
Upon receipt of the returned product(s), we reserve the right to
evaluate the return to determine if a refund or exchange will be made.
REFUNDS: Refunds will be made in the same manner in which payment was
made. (I.e. credit card purchases will be returned in the form of a
credit to the original card account.) Credit Card refunds are subject
to a 3% return fee. NOTE: If we deem a return was made without
reasonable cause, where in our judgment the product meets advertised
condition, the refund will be subject to a 20% Restocking fee.

EXCHANGES: When returning merchandise to be exchanged, please include
estimated shipping charges to ship your replacement order."

I asked and was told by Royal Tiger that the Tokerev's are as pretty as the one's pictured
on their webpage. The photo shows a clean military blue pistol. I paid extra for excellent
condition.

Gun arrived. Thickly parkerized. Finger prints oozing from under surface. Lanyard hook on
the base of grip was broken off and the sharp end was sticking just waiting to slide my
clothes or hand.

The sales people have been nice. It took a while but they've informed me they're sending me
a return shipment sticker. I was even willing to just accept a replacment part for the
broken lanyard hook, but they have promised to send a return sticker so they can see.

I'm really hoping they come through for me because they've got some other cool products I'm
really interested in.

Okay Ray. I'm still waiting on Royal Tigers. So here's the whole story...

24 Nov 2009
Royal Tigers Photo of Romanian Tokarev shows nicely polished blued pistol.
I wrote:
"Are the Tokarev's really as pretty as the photograph?"
Royal Tigers replied:
"Our pistols are in Excellent condition. Yes they do look that good."

1 Dec 2009
Recieved Pistol
Was badly parkerized or improperly blued in appearance. Rough irregular finish depth with
thumb prints oozing from underneath finish. Lanyard hook on gun was broken off and sharp
end sticking out.

12 Dec 2009
After several emails they accepted return. Several emails about no excellent condition
pistols in stock, etc etc. Seemed like any excuse to avoid dealing with the customer to
provide product as advertised.

?? Dec 2009
Recived letter from Royal Tigers that some guns had been recalled due to issue with manual
safety.

8 March 2010
Recieved same pistol from Royal Tigers. Lanyard hook repaired.

Cleaned and checked gun. Although not finished anything like the photo I took it to the
range the first opportunity I had. Royal Tigers seemed to hold little interest in customer
satisfaction but "buyer-beware" I was prepared to eat what investment I already had made.

Gun passes disconnect test on bench.
Took to range.
Loaded 2 rounds. Functioned correctly.
Loaded 2 rounds. Functioned correctly.
Loaded 2 rounds. Functioned correctly.
Inserted full magazine. FIRED ALL ROUNDS WITH ONE TRIGGER PULL. It sounds fun. But it
isn't! 7 rounds, one handed, in under a second is a very dangerous condition.

Upon close examination with the aid of my local gunsmith comparing it to a correctly
functioning example, it was determined that the sear base was machined incorrectly. No
modification or repair was ever done. Holding the trigger at different angles the
disconnect would function improperly.

Returned to Royal Tiger 19 March 2010 for replacement. They actually suggested replacing it
pretty quick this time.

21 April. Still waiting.

-------------

In the mean time, I ordered a polish tokarev from S.O.G. Recieved it and the disconnect was
also faulty. But not in a dangerous way. This gun would stay in disconnect and not fire
most of the time.

Contact S.O.G. and they were extremely eager to make it right and I had a perfectly
functioning replacement in advertised condition to me WITHIN ONLY 2 DAYS. S.O.G. scored on
a big A+ in my book.

S.O.G. also delivered via UPS which is very gun friendly from my experience. With Royal
Tigers they would only deliver day time Fed Ex which means I had to drive to Cincinnati to
pick up the gun in their facility with the big unfriendly "no firearms" sign on the door.

The sales people at Royal Tigers seemed like they were trying to make things right, but
other factors at their company seemed to constrain them from actually making things right
in any kind of helpful pace.

Their current website suggests they are improving customer service. I'm still waiting.

Update: Recieved same pistol back 24 April 2010. Took to range. It still doubles. Took
apart to clean. It seems possible they swapped all or part of the hammer mechanism, but the
sear base looks the same.

Anybody got a proper sear for one of these I could install in my Royal Tiger "Excellent
Condition" class III illegal to own machine pistol to make it legal and safe again?

You could threaten to contact the ATF about them selling illegal
machine guns. Maybe THAT would get them to either fix the gun
properly or replace it with a "new" one.

Called last wedneday 28/april/10 after no email reply. Lady said Dave had
neglected to call and they would be sending me RMA info.

It's Tue 4 May and have been checking the mail but haven't recieved any
letter yet.

Got the RMA letter a day or two later and shipped back the gun. It's May
21st. They still have my money. I still have no gun. I would like my money
back. I can abide by a bit of confusion, but they have my money and I
haven't heard anything. Their policy must be to "send whatever crap is in
the bucket", "if it's broken just fix it with a hammer", "don't make any
effort unless the AFT is going to be asking about pistols that fire full
auto", then finally "f*&k the customer we're keeping his money".

Said they were refund my money. Oh, and the one lady who can do it is off
today so I must contact them monday.

Contacted the lady by phone. She had no way to tell if I had been sent a
refund via credit card. I prefer email as I have a good paper trail of
who said what. They will mail a check she said. Didn't even get into the
amount. They were polite and always sounds like they're trying to do the
right thing.

I have a friend who ordered from them as well. He's been promised a tracking
number from them for over 2 months and hasn't gotten it or the item he bought
yet.

Just worked out a deal with Royal Tigers. They've promised to send me a P64 instead. Will
see what happens. Nice to see the P64's hit the C&R list.

Recieved P64 promptly as promised. Excellent condition. Swapped the
springs 20lb for recoil spring, 18lb for hammer spring. It's still a bit
stiff in double action so some tinkering is due, but was expected.
