Looking for landscape design person

[Nancy Milligan]

I think I need some professional help from a landscape designer on landscaping
my back yard. I think what I want to do is hire someone to help me come up with
a plan, then hire a landscaper to implement it, in stages as I can afford it.

Can anyone recommend someone in San Diego for this sort of project? Or if you
have advice on finding such a person, I'd love to hear about it.

Look in yellow pages under Landscape Architect or...many Nurseries
employ freelance services of landscape designers (may even do it
in-house). These services can be complimentary if they feel you will
buy the plant material from them.

The only thing I've gotten so far is a reference to apld.com (Assoc. of
Professional Landscape Designers). I send email off to the organization for
references in San Diego and haven't gotten a reply yet. If you find someone
please give me a heads up and I promise I'll do likewise.

Congrats on the new house! That's pretty much what I'm facing too. Only I've
been here 1.5 years now. I carved out a flower bed, made some raised beds for
veggies, but it still needs lots of work and some kind of planning to go into
it.

You can contact your local ASLA (Am. Soc. of Landscape Architects) or local
nurseries. You might contact your extension agent and see if they are aware of
local residentially focussed landscape architects or designers. Some extension
services (such as Ga.) had a landscape architecture extension division for
years (until being politically cut) which produced very good pamphlets on
various aspects of home landscape design and plant selection. Perhaps Ca. has
something similar?

Try the horticulture department at Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges. An intern
might be available to assist at a reasonable cost.
