As long as you have plenty of summer ahead of you there should be no problem cutting it back now.

 Hello

Last year I planted some rambling roses that I'm training to grow up a
trellis and over the front of my house. They've taken really well, but
are throwing out a lot of vertical shoots that are leaning off the
trellis and sticking out of the front of the house by quite a way. I
don't want to tie them in, as there's already a lot of growth and I

Sounds like a virus. Dig it out, including the roots. I would not
plant another rose there as you do not know if the virus is in the
soil.

On Mon, 20 May 2013 15:08:34 +0200, Sarah Fogg

It sounds to me like it was cut too far back? I am afraid there may be nothing you can do about it. Plant another one over it and maybe you will get lucky and have two.

MJ

Hi, we recently moved to a house with beautiful climbing roses around
the front door. A rose bush on each side, these were pruned in the
autumn and although one side is flourishing the other has produced a few
leaves which have now turned brown. It is alive but I fear it is slowly
dying. There are no actual signs of pest or disease on the plant it's

I have just planted a couple of "Star Performer" climbing roses next to
a wall of my house in order that these can climb up a trellis that I
have attached to the wall. When I was digging the holes I found a gas
pipe directly underneath. Do I need to worry at all about the roots
potentially damaging the gas pipe as the roses grow? The reason I ask is
