"Impressionist Roses", by Derek Fell (ISBN 1-56799-801-1), isn't the
be-all tell-all of rose books, but, it has a lot of succulent stuff in
it.
Derek Fell lives near here and every year opens his garden (called
Cedaridge Farm) for tours. There are some gorgeous pictures in this book
of the roses growing there. If you're looking for ideas of roses that
will do well in Southeastern PA Zone 6 or companion plants to grow
amongst your roses (sorry, SUNNY!), you'll find some terrific ideas
here.
The focus of the book is roses of the Impressionists, so you've got
artists' portraits of their own gardens along with lots of photos of the
same, or similar, roses growing today. Fell has actually taken some of
the floral still lifes and recreated them using real roses, photographed
them, and put both side by side. (His wife is a flower arranger, so that
helps <g>)
I think I'm gonna curl up in front of the fire tonight and drool over
this!
