No more trips to the kitchen faucet!

Ok after reading that whole thread on the garden hose-to-kitchen faucet
dealio, I decided what the hey..I'm at the store (Home Depot to be
exact..)..lugging around a flower carpet hanging rose (quite stunning I
might add) that I found in the nursery. Doesn't it make you *wonder*
when you see one great looking plant and the rest of them look dead?
Hmm..anyways..I grab a garden hose and a sprayer thingie which lets you
choose which of 6 types of sprays you desire..and trotted off to the
house. The guy said that the garden hose would hook right into the
kitchen faucet and I would be off and running. Not so. I get home only
to realize that I can't possibly screw the garden hose into the kitchen
faucet. Why you ask? Well because it didn't FIT! Let me explain in
detail so that you might better understand my frustration ;). Our
kitchen faucet is female. The garden hose is female. Two females do not
screw into each other (I don't CARE if its the 90's!). A female fixture
is like a garden hose..it needs something to screw INTO it. A male
fixture is basically what it sounds like..something protrudes and it
screws into the female fixture. Pretty obscene picture if you ask
me..but who else probably named these poor fixtures but a male? Anyways
after spending an hour in Home Depot with the tool-wielding boyfriend in
tow (he's just a man of a thousand talents!)..we decide they dont have
what we need (or if they do..they sure don't know it). The next day I
call around with sinking heart to try to find what we need. After a few
calls with no success..we finally get lucky at this small, older
hardware store in San Mateo (down where I work so it wasn't a trek like
it woulda been if I had come from home). For those of you who might
wanting to be trying this at home...FYI..what we needed for our female
garden hose and faucet was a "Aerator Adapter for a Garden Hose w/ two
males" (just like a male to try to horn in on MY female garden hose!).
Race home, screw the puppy on and we're in business. Of course there
were the normal, minor leaking problems (ok ok water sprayed
everywhere)..but the boyfriend fixed those right up (Disclaimer: He
insisted I sing his praises..so take it at face value)..and off I went.
So there I am watering with my new garden hose strapped to the kitchen
faucet..trailing through the living room and out the balcony door..(Oh
and the green just goes SO well with my pastel furniture!) It's such an
improvement over the trips to the faucet..plus I get to enjoy being
outside longer etc etc..and I can stop watering to dead head and it's
just a nice thing. Except for the fact that I can't figure out how to
perfect the water pressure and have blown a few flowers to kingdom come
with my sprayer..but all in good time I'm thinking.
So if any of you apartment dwellers are thinking of retiring YOUR
watering can..I say go for it. Get yourself a hose, a sprayer for the
end (oh and they had a nifty one that was like a long tube that worked
really well for hard to reach places), and an adapter (if you need
one..most newer faucets are male and not female so you wouldn't need
one)..and you are off and running. Only cost me about $10 total.

Mara-who is armed and ready with her little green hose..which I'm
thinking could be pretty nifty in blowing away a few of the bugs that I
was never able to get with the watering can. Could be that the
boyfriend's spraying days are over..well I better not say anything..just
yet. ;)

they would of had the adapters and the sales people there would have know
what to sell you. At homedepot your are dealing with stock boys that
know nothing. Best way to regulate the pressure is to get a hose end
shut off and use it to regulate it. We use one on all our outdoor hoses
not only to turn off at he hose end but to regulate volume when watering
the container. Using 3/4" hoses on 60lb water line will blow minis right
out of their pots!!

I had to hold my facial features in place w/ my hands, I laughed so
hard on this one.

Just like an outdoor faucet, decrease the water pressure at the
source, i.e. your sink, turn the water down a smidg untill you get the
desired pressure.

Ok...let me correct myself..Thanks BILL For suggesting it..and now that
you mention it..I *do* remember you starting the thread! :)
I figured out a bit on how to do the water..apparently a knob on the
sprayer regulates that..but its still kinda strong.
