Hi Wendy,
The great thing about Sara Lee 'Eye Dee' is she's fragrant.
She has a very pleasant aroma. She's a late winter - early spring
bloomer and is done for the season now.

Just as an aside, I want to apologize to Al if I'm not stating
names correctly. I have names for all my plants, but I often
don't use them the way the AOS recommends. I probably
should, but I never intend to either sell them or enter them in
competition, so hybrid derivatives make for excessively long
names that have to fit in the excessively small boxes on my
webpage. Thanks for your nice comments. Jim

Where did you find her? I do not have one fragrant Phal!
As to your feelings regarding the names, I feel the same way but
as long as you have the correct name on the tag for value retainment!
BTW, missed your music too.
Cheers Wendy

One of the advantages to keeping the correct names is the ability to
recommend it to others, or at least tell others what to look for if they're
searching for something specific. Even the grex name - I sure there are
Phal Sara Lees out there that are not as nice as 'Eye Dee'.

Hi Wendy,
I bought it from Dick Wells of Hilltop Orchids in Cloverdale,
Indiana. I met Dick & Sandy at the Missouri Botanical Gardens'
annual orchid show in St. Louis several years ago. He's a pretty
well known flasker around the Midwest and has some extremely
nice plants. The little 'equestris' on my website won first place
in St. Louis and came from him, as did the Michael Crocker, Jack
Crawford, and the violacea that's featured in the "Spotlight".
Hey, thank you for mentioning my music. Since I didn't get many
comments about it, I didn't think visitors shared my musical tastes
and was going to put them "out of misery". :-) Jim

Jim -
Does Dick have a web site? If not he is missing a lot. Garden Web
http://www.gardenweb.com/vote/lists/orchid1999.html
rated some mail order sources and he rated 8th. I keep loosing the
crowns and murdering my Phals. But I am willing to try or shop. But
I can only find references to his talks around the IN and IL.

Hi Susan,
Not to my knowledge, but the email address I have for him
is rwe...@ccrtc.com. I checked out the erl for the mail order
sources you provided and I've done business with quite a few:
Zuma Canyon, Oakhill Gardens, Hilltop, Whipporwill, Odoms,
and Orchids by Hauserman.

As an unsolicited plug, I've got some terrific Phalaenopsis
seedlings from Zuma Canyon (#1) and Orchids by Hausermann (#17).
Neither one are cheap, but the seedlings they sent me were by
far the best I've ever bought.

I don't think Dick Wells will ship seedlings. I've always bought
full-sized plants from him. But you can check with him. I don't
think he needs a website. He's pretty well known. When Ann &
I were coming back from southern Indiana this spring, we stopped
to see him and he had four visitors while we were there; and he
doesn't advertise. Jim

Jim -
I figure everyone needs a web site. <];-)
I did not realize until after I sent the message that was a '99
ranking. I am not even operating in the right century.
I think I will save my 'mad money' for the ChicagoLand Orchid
Fest Sept. 28-30.

Hi James,

Which clonal name does your Phal Michael Crocker have? I am about an hour
north of Dick Wells and would really like to get one of those.
