I was there and picked up more literature than I could read between
now and the next show. :-)
The Super Nintendo was the big event of the show, but I was only
mildly impressed. I certainly am not going to run out and buy one
when they become available. Some of the software I saw running
was no better than present Nintendo games with maybe a few more
colors and a little better graphics. Some I saw were outstanding
though. One in particular which I forget the name of showed you
walking through a forest. The background of trees was scrolling
a slightly different speeds giving a great 3D effect.
There were as many or more booths for third party software companies
as last year which surprised me a little. I expected to see some
cut backs.
The biggest surprise was the number of companies showing MS-DOS
software. Probably the biggest selection I have ever seen at a
CES show.

Sorry Steve but they did. While I rather liked the Japanese version
the American version which appeared in a plexiglass booth with
an american supermario land shoved in its cartridge slot [but the
display was F-zero, go figure] and the Supernintendo they kept showing
in the "Nintendo Stonehinge" [This thing looked just like stone hinge]
was a dog.
To describe it [and I HOPE it was a mock-up because even though
Im really not a nintendo fan, I dont want to see anyone get
slaughtered the way nintendo looks like their going to get
slaughtered] its looked to me to be about 30-40cm by 25-35cm by 5cm.
It was stark white, made of some very cheap looking plastic.
[unlike the nice IBM creme brown of the SF] and had these
god awful square brilliant blue buttons on the control deck.
I havent seen anything that cheesy since the Atari XEGS. I hope
it was a mock up. Somebody tell me it was a mock up.
The carts have also been altered. They are not rounded like
the SF but appear larger an square like an old 5200 cart. [Or at
least SMW looked that way]
This was featured in a glass mini booth with a logo on the glass,
SUPER NINTENDO, now youre playing with super power [tm], NOT.

Was it me or did the sound on F-Zero just suck. Ive been reading
all these reviews about, "oh great sound on every SNES cart"
no not hardly. I heard much better music comming of the Neo
Geo and the Turbo.
Good question unfortunately the SuperNintendo was behind plexiglass with
a cart in the slot with plexglass around it. Hmmm.
> ActRacer (SF) has the best music and sound (and the game play).
The major problem I saw with actraiser, which was in but one machine
on day 4, was that it seriously slowed down in some spots.
My question is, are there alot of people out there that have their
200 dollars ready and waiting for the SNES when it comes out.

If so, Id say *Seriously* try before you buy. There's not [Or at least
didnt seem to be] a whole lot of "Yes, Id pay 60 bucks to own this"
software. A lot of hey Ill rent this or get this crap out of here
ware.
