If you haven't sent yours yet, a new ballot will be posted after this
message. Incidentally no one has voted for Atari (2600/7800) games yet,
so they aren't on the ballot, but please do vote for them if you play
them. I've fixed the code so that the system code isn't printed in
front of each game title, but please include it when you vote for a
game. Also everything on this list is still "new," but that will change
starting next week. If you have suggestions or comments, send mail to

In this list, games have been rated on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being
good and 1 being bad. For each game, the total number of votes, the
average rating, and the vote distribution are shown. New games are indicated
by a "*" before their entry.
The general guideline for ratings is:
8-10 worth buying at full price
6-7 worth buying at a discount, or if you're particularly interested
in this kind of game
3-5 only worth renting
2 only worth playing for free, and only for a few minutes
1 worthless
The vote distribution uses a single character to represent the percentage
of votes for each ranking. The following characters codes can appear:
"." no votes cast "3" 30-39% of the votes "7" 70-79% of the votes
"0" 1-9% of the votes "4" 40-49% of the votes "8" 80-89% of the votes
"1" 10-19% of the votes "5" 50-59% of the votes "9" 90-99% of the votes
"2" 20-29% of the votes "6" 60-69% of the votes "*" 100% of the votes
To have your votes tallied in the list, send mail to
vi...@stark.lcs.mit.edu. In your mail, any line beginning with the
word "vote" will be considered as a vote. All other lines ARE
IGNORED. Votes must be of the form
vote <rating> <system code> <title>
where <rating> is an integer between 1 and 10, <system code> is a
one-letter code describing the system the game is for, and <title> is
everything on the line after the <system code>. The system codes are:
A = Atari 2600/7800 N = Nintendo Entertainment System
G = Nintendo Gameboy S = Sega Genesis
L = Atari/Epyx Lynx T = NEC Turbografx-16
M = Sega Master System

To make things easy, the reply-to field of this posting is set to the
rating server. Simply hit "r" to send in your votes.
The code for this rating service, and much of this text, was provided by
Chuck Musciano. Any errors or problems, however, are doubtless due to
myself.

To use this ballot, just hit "R". Once in the editor, insert
your game rating between the word "vote" and the system code / game
title. Your rating must be an integer between 1 and 10. There must
be at least one blank on either side of your rating. Make sure the
word "vote" appears at the start of each rating.
If you do not want to rate a particular game, just DELETE THAT LINE
FROM THE BALLOT. When you are finished, SAVE THE FILE, and exit the
editor. The votes will be sent to the game rating tabulator.
If you want to vote for additional games, just add them at the
end, in a format similar to the existing entries. Be sure to include
the system code right before the title. This code is:

To use this ballot, just hit "R". Once in the editor, insert
your game rating between the word "vote" and the system code / game
title. Your rating must be an integer between 1 and 10. There must
be at least one blank on either side of your rating. Make sure the
word "vote" appears at the start of each rating.
If you do not want to rate a particular game, just DELETE THAT LINE
FROM THE BALLOT. When you are finished, SAVE THE FILE, and exit the
editor. The votes will be sent to the game rating tabulator.
If you want to vote for additional games, just add them at the
end, in a format similar to the existing entries. Be sure to include
the system code right before the title. This code is:
