Does anyone know of any websites that have artwork from
the Metal Slug game series? It seems all the SNK/neo fan
sites are focussed on KOF (and interestingly, they tend
to have the worst pictures possible out of the tons of
great KOF pics. :))

Any Metal Slug artwork sites would be appreciated!

If an arcade doesn't have a version of SF or SS in it, then it's not an
arcade

i heard metal x is much like metal slug 2. man... i am glad one company is
trying to preserve the beauty of 2d side scrollers. I am glad it's on neo
geo too cuz neo geo is a perfect(ahem.. ahem...) 2d powerhouse for an
almost decade. It's really incredible that an arcade machine hasl asted
that long in the very competitive field..

Actually, besides the RAM, isn't the Saturn a superior 2D machine?
I think so... But it never really got many games since SNK and Capcom
were basically the only houses working on 2D games, and they
obviously wouldn't go to the ST-V when they have their own technologies
in place...

Saturn had a lot of potential in 2D but Saturn ended its life without
showing its potential to the max. on the other hand, neo geo proves that
it has been utilizing the sytem to the max. It's easy to say but it's
hard to do. this is a difference between satun and neog eo. btw,
originality counts more than just a simple translation of games. That is
why i think saturn ended its life cycle quickly.

Know where I can get any kind of tech specs for the CPS2? Like colors
on screen, resolution (is it still around 320x224?), CPU, RAM, sprite
capabilities, etc? Also for the CPS3? I've been searching for that
stuff on the net with no luck. I know there must not be that much
information released relating to these systems.

No, the only thing I can think of is, when SF3 and CPS3 was new-ish, EGM ran
an article or two that talked a bit about CPS3 specs and how they compared
to CPS2. I read it at the time but don't remember the details. Traditionally
companies haven't made a big deal out of arcade specs the way they do for
home systems, though they have started to do that with the polygon hardware.

Resolution is probably as you say. Vertically it can't be any more than 240,
because the picture isn't interlaced, and it's standard 15.75kHz...same for
CPS3.

I've probably got that EGM article around here somewhere. I don't have time
to look for it now, but I'll eventually find it when I go through that stuff
(probably months from now). In any case, when I do find it, I'll post a
summary (or mail it to you) of whatever specs it gave just in case you're
still looking by then...

Hmm, I did see a CPS2 and CPS3 "FAQ" (more of an ego-trip for its author
IMO) on GameFAQs, they give some specs. I have no way to verify if they're
correct or not, and I don't know the author's source of the info. Take a
look:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/faq/capcom_cps2.txt
http://www.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/faq/capcom_cps3.txt

And FYI, though he doesn't mention it (and I told him), CPS3 also has the
"Battery of Death(tm)"...

Once again, thanks. I do remember reading specs for the CPS3 from
somewhere a long time ago, but it didn't say much. I believed it was
hyped that it would run games at 640x480 resolution, but obviously
that isn't the case. If these FAQs are correct then these systems
aren't as above-and-beyond powerful as I thought they would be. I
guess it's mostly in the amount of memory used rather than in the
resolution/color capabilities that make the games look good.
