Just picked up Marine Fishing for $10, scavenging for Dreamcast stuff.
Gods, this game is fun. How come you guys have been hiding this from me?
:)

Anyway, are people still seeing the official Sega fishing controller for
sale anywhere? I'm wrecking mine, so I feel like I need to have a backup
controller just in case. I cannot rest until the 300 pound tarpon is mine.

-KKC, who also picked up a spare Dreamcast just for kicks. Need one in the
office for slow days. :)

It has always been there my son...;)

Seriously though, I agree, it was never really talked about a whole lot in
RGVS even when it first came out. I think it's just a gorgeous game, that's a
whole lot of fun.

Yeah, most GameStop's and EBX's have them for about $9.99. I have read a FAQ
that states something like this though(and only having the Interact Rod I
can't comment):
The Interact is better for Sega Bass Fishing 1/2 for some reason, and the
Official Sega Rod is better for Sega Marine Fishing. I have forgotten the
explanation on this though... :(

I can dig it. I've wanted to pick up the offical Sega rod for quite
sometime...need to get around to it.

hehehehehe, it'll be a fight, that's for sure.

I've had a spare DC for a bit too. As my girlfriend *doesn't even* dust the
Genesis2/Sega CD2 combo system I bought and put in the bedroom(got it for,
get this, $17.99 at GameStop a long while back) she DEFINITELY not getting a
DC in there...;)

After looking at these prices, I feel ashamed of buying Get Bass with the
controller import for $100. I always figured it would be a good deal too
quirky to bring out a fishing rod controller in the US...I guess I was
wrong. Oh well...with the end of Dreamcast goes the end of my import buying
anyway...it was the only system that I could play Japanese games and
actually understand what I was doing.

P.S. - However, I'll never regret HOTD2 with the Sega gun for $120. :-)

It's certainly fun, and worth owning if you have a rod and like the genre.
But SBF 1 and 2 are better IMHO.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the official rods at FuncoLand or the like
still. You've probably just got to troll all local stores (including
weird ones like Sam Goody which are still trying to ditch stuff).

I wouldn't mind picking up a black Sports deck to swap with my main DC
so that it matches the rest of the black consoles...

For the people possibly reading this thread and are thinking about which
DC fishing games to buy: Sega Marine Fishing and Sega Bass Fishing are
very similar in play; they are both arcade games at heart. SBF2,
however, is much more of a fishing sim (it's not really a sim, it's just
that compared to these other games it is), and will disappoint someone
expecting the same style of gameplay that was found in SBF and SMF.
I personally like SMF best; the same arcade fishing style as SBF but
with much greater variation in what you're catching and the aquarium
function giving you a broader goal. SBF comes in second for me, and I
might even like Reel Fishing Wild better than SBF2, although that varies
with my mood.

I didn't much care for Reel Fishing Wild...the whole FMV thing was just bad.
The gameplay, past that wasn't that great either. I don't know, I got it for
$12.99 at Target, sold it a week later. Might just be me...

No, that's understandable. Something about SBF2 was really off putting
to me tho, whereas once I got used to the look of Reel Fishing Wild, I
thought it played well enough (altho not up to SBF/SMF standards) and
was more pleasant for variety in terms of US DC fishing games than SBF2
(although SBF 2 does play in a unique way that some people may prefer
over any of the other fishers).

I've not gotten a chance to play SBF2 yet, is it really different from SBF1? I
need to get around to it, especially now that it's only $19 and lower most
places...

Very much so. In spite of many differences, SMF felt like SBF the first
time I picked it up (but more fun). SBF2 feels like it has the
difficulty cranked up to 10 and the speed of the game cranked down to 1.
Of course, that could be explained by me just sucking at the changed play...

I haven't put much time into it, since I dislike it. But it's nice to
have it around. It was worth a gamble at $30 for me; I'd say go for it
at $20 as long as you can still find it (I haven't seen a new copy in awhile).

Who was it before that said Bass Fishing 2 was more of a simulation than
the first game? You have to spend time driving the boat around and picking
a place to drop anchor before picking a casting point. Bass are sensitive
to sunlight and temperature, meaning if you have the wrong lure for the
wrong time of day you'll catch squat. And instead of a traditional time
limit you have a Shenmue-length day to catch as many fish as possible.

I don't mind the differences so much, but I'll admit I prefer playing the
first game to the second. Although the thing that really grates my cheese
about Bass Fishing 2 is the big show the developers made of envrionmental
conciousness... Whenever you catch a fish, there's a five second delay as
the fisherman shows off the catch, gently removes the hook and then
releases the poor creature back into the water. With the same damned
vibraphone music in the background every time. I'm all for natural
preservation, but please don't make me wait to play my video game.

All accessories have two package variants, I think. Around September 2000
Sega changed all their Dreamcast package designs. Before that, games and
accessories had that white arc with the little orange triangle and the
accessories had a blurry, multi-colored picture of the accessory. Then they
changed to some sort of outer space shot of like a planet with a sun coming
up behind it and games lost the white arc, triangle and became just
"Dreamcast," rather than "Sega Dreamcast."
