Too bad he was WRONG. Here's the text straight from the site..

"The Rainbow 6 DC saga continues today, as, it seems, there may be another
delay. Those of you who have been counting on the scheduled December 8th
release (today) know that the game didn't make it to stores. Some EBs are
saying December 11th, but, in light of the latest turn of events, that
happening doesn't seem likely.
When asked about the game, a Majesco representative stated that the game had
not shipped, and that "it has apparently been delayed again". We couldn't
get any other information from them at this time, but, if things are as bad
as they seem, we may not see this game before Christmas.

There hasn't been any official delay announced yet, but if the current
situation is exactly as it appears to be, one should be soon. We'll keep you
posted on R6's status as we learn more. I really hope that I'm wrong about
this, but if Majesco doesn't get this ship straight in a hurry, gamers may
see Christmas come and go without any tactical combat action."

Notice that nowhere do they claim the game ahs been delayed auntil after
Christmas. It was all pure speculation on IGN's part...they used the word
"may," not "will." The article was purely a report on how the game was not
in stores today. My guess is that it'll be in stores soon..within a week or
so. Otherwise, we would've had an official announcement on change of
release date. If they keep it within a week or so, they can always say it
was due to shipping problems :)

I wish that I could say I was genuinely surprised by this news. With any
luck, it'll probably turn out to suck just as majorly as Superman for
the N64 did, after that game experienced countless delays last year.

The newest GameWeek lists it as 2/2000 now.

You do know that the graphics for that particular game suck hard, right?
Its only hope for being decent is that they're taking all this time to
design a completely new graphic engine.

Yeah, screw the original concept and the gameplay.

Maybe the lack of decent browser caused you to read the article incorrectly.
Or maybe you don't know that Christmas falls on Dec. 25 this year. But,
Rainbow 6 was "pushed back" to ship on the 12/10 (arriving in stores on
12/11). Which is what my local Babbage's has had it listed as for a couple
of weeks now.

They said that it definitly wasn't shipped yesterday and that there was a
*rumor* that gamers may not have it in time for X-mas. I would doubt it
would be too far off the mark, since the game went gold a week ago.

Oooohhh... nitwit... that stings. The game looked archaic on the PC, and it
looks even worse on the DC when you consider the graphical standard of the
system. It's as if Sega were to port the original Quake to the DC. The
game may be great, but many say the same thing about Goldeneye on N64.
Would you be happy if a hypothetical Goldeneye on the DC looked identical to
the N64 version?

I was wondering about that too considering that I just got an email
from them this morning announcing that my Rainbow Six pre-order
has been delayed to 01/19/2000!

I stand corrected (as usual). Checked out my local Babbage's last night,
sure enough Rainbow Six was pushed back until Jan. 6. Also, confirmed it on
their webpage (www.gamestop.com). EBWorld.com has a release date of 12/30.
Ugh.

I thought I read it went gold. Anyone know what the deal is?

I would have to say yes. (to either being a direct port) While I would
love to see enhanced visuals it's the gameplay that makes or breaks it for
me. Goldeneye had great gameplay and good graphics....as long as the
gameplay remains intact I'm there. As for R6, I can't play it on my
PC(waayyy too slow) but have been waiting for a tactical shooter for a long
time. If they're delaying it for graphical issues I'd be disappointed. I'd
rather be playing a great game, with good eyecandy now, rather than wait 6
months for slightly better graphics. BUT, if on the other hand, the delays
are to tighten up AI, add missions or anything that enhances gameplay I will
gladly wait for months.

*sigh*. There's quite a graphical difference between Quake (1996) and
Rainbow Six (1998). Also there's a difference between Goldeneye (1997),
which was developed exclusively for the N64. Sure Rainbow Six may not be
bleeding edge graphics, by 1999-2000, standards, but they are certainly
sufficient. I'll take so-so graphics and killer gameplay (providing that
they didn't f! it up) anyday over the lastest and prettiest cookie-cutter,
shoot-anything-that-moves FPS.

Ya know what else would be ridiculous? If Square would release a couple of
SNES Final Fantasy games to the PSX without enhancing the graphics. Oh wait,
they did that, and fans of the series were happy to have it. Nevermind. Or
wait, if Atari and Midway released classic arcade games like Gauntlet, Smash
TV, Robotron 2084 and Sinastar. Oh wait, they did that too.

Nitwit. Nitwit. Nitwit. :P

As much as I would like this to be case, it seems less likely to me. Why
would the game go gold one week and be delayed for 1 month the next?
After deciding to go gold did they really say, "Hey, let's improve the
graphics, the AI and/or add a bunch of new missions" Not likely this late
in the game's development. (This WAS probably the reason it didn't make
launch back in September) My guess is there was a problem in production
or they found some bugs/flaws that they felt were unacceptable and decided
to give themselves a month (officially) to fix them. Let hope it turns
out to be an easy fix and we get it early...

Just some thoughts,

Well, it's sounding like the delay is going to happen again. This game
is the reason I picked up my DC and I have to say I'm quite disappointed.
If the delays are to improve gameplay they are tolerable....but I'm starting
to fear a mediocre game after all of this. By all accounts the single
player sounds quite short so I do hope there is some effort being made to
improve it. I think the benefit of all these delays should be Rainbow 6 and
Rogue spear missions in one package. This would greatly enhance the single
player and would make the delays highly forgivable.--Hey, I can dream can't
I?
