IMO, because they wrapped up all the story points in '97. To be honest, I think half the characters don't even belong in '98 because (SPOILERS AHEAD)
- Rugal shouldn't still be alive (dead after '95) - Chizuru isn't needed for about another 8-9 years (since Orochi only attempts to resurrect himself every 10 years, and according to the SNK propaganda, she succeeded in sealing off Orochi with Kyo and Iori) - the entire New Faces team should be dead, since Orochi didn't seem to give back Chris's body when he was sealed and supposedly Yashiro and Shermie suicided to get Orochi going in the first place - Yamazaki probably got his pay, won't be seen again until he needs more money - Takuma, Heidern, and Saishu are only present because Rugal is. Remember, Heidern didn't see a need to fight once Rugal was out of the picture, and Takuma (or Saishu) weren't in '96-'97, which were non-Rugal years - The absurdity of the USA Sports team suddenly reappearing
'98 is a pure fighter, much in the vein of Fatal Fury Special. Though if they wanted to be absolutely complete, they might as well have tossed back in Eiji, Kasumi, and the Boss Team (I could have made allowances for Goenitz and Orochi).
I predict '99 is going to see radical changes in teams (or 2000, if they decide not to restart the story arc in '99).
Anybody out here beat Chakan for Genesis? A DAMN hard game, you might have to use the unlimited potions cheat to win (still takes a while - teleport to 2nd hub, beat all the levels within). However, the story is top notch and the ending absolutely blew me away!!! VERY worthwhile....

I've heard this game referred to as the "Dream Match" before, a "what if" if you will. Don't really need a story since it's a bunch of fighters fighting people they never would have met.

That never made any sense to me. It didn't fit with their background it all. Seems the game people pulled it out of their a**. Actually, I read an interesting fanfic which described the Orochi New Face team as different than the normal New Face team who were clones. That made a lot of sense. At least it explains why the Orochi and normal New Face team can fight each other.
Oh well, I just think Shermie is the best thing to ever happen to KOF so I'm biased...

I hope they completely redesign the game. It looking the same after all these years is getting old... they could make it look so much better.

I've tried getting through Aztec on 00 Agent but I just can't do it!

The game was pretty easy on Agent... Secret Agent was more challenging..

Kartia had a pretty bad ending, it seemed the game just sort of cut off... up until that though I was having fun, then Bam! I killed the last dude and the game finished.
Samurai S. had no ending, oh wait, no it told me how dumb I was , that's right.
Oh yeah, and Tomb Raider 1, now I remember, this pissed me off for a week... It took me fours days of at least 10 hours playing to complete it, then she gets all bitchy for saving her life and making her rich... she could of at least showed me her butt!
I think the Resident Evil series have always had good, long, drawn out endings, where you feel like the gaem is almost over (not that that's a good thing), but at least when you finish, you at least say "phew, I made it", not like in Metal Gear Solid when you shout "DIE, DAMN YOU, DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Most recently, Fallout 2. It wasn't particularly impressive, but the ending changed depending on what side quests you decided to do. I thought that was a neat touch.

Yes, the character theme medley and everything. That ending was the best I've seen.
The worst? Hmmm, I remember playing a game and the ending was just "congratulations" I forgot which game it was. I think it was Rampage or something.
Best: FF7. If only because it's the one ending that has caused more controversy and interpretation arguments than most films. I would love to see an FF7-level duel over the ending to Pi, but to date no one has even MENTIONED it.
Worst: Rage Racer. End credits over a car racing on an empty street with its headlights on? Runner up: Dead or Alive. The main reason Rage Racer won out is because it's more of a bitch to beat RR than DoA.
Yeah, I know that these are all PSX games (except DoA, but I'm referring to the PSX port), but I'm a Sony groupie. Deal.

I don't rememebr DoA having an ending except for the fact that it gave you a picture to look at and sometimes a new costume... oh, and the fact that it let you watch people fight during the credits... which was cool for the first time...
Wanna know the lamest game intro/ending/storyline? They all of course belong to Quake 1 on the PC. This is no joke. It goes directly to demo mode without a title screen, has no story whatsoever, and has "THE END" displayed after you beat the final boss.

Not to mention how easy that final boss was if you knew the trick to defeating it. <8*) I thought Quake was more of a game engine than an actual game, though. The level design was great, and the game engine was way ahead of its time, but the "story" was a bit hokey and copied mostly from Doom.
I understand Quake II was a better game, but I haven't played it...

Obviously, you didn't understand anything about Tactics story. Ovelia found out that delita used Ramza so she chose to avenge him, in part because she thinks that Ramza's dead. Delita wanted to kill Ovelia because he wanted to get rid completely of the royal family. Delita's last words were truly inspiring to me.

I don't think he intended to kill her. IMO he was unaware that Ovelia had listened in on his conversations. I think he wanted her as a puppet.
Actually, I did understand the story (although it was poorly translated into English). I was just commenting on how much of a bummer of an ending it was.

: 1943 on the 8-bit. It said "thank you", and if I recall : correctly "thank" was spelled wrong.
Oh yeah, gotta love the bad translation endings, my fav was from POW for NES:
You've saved the day. Congraturations!
I remember laughing out loud the first time I saw that....... "You now prosess Dracula's 'insert body part' " from CV2 was pretty funny as well..... though CV2 is one of my fav NES games whereas POW hardly compared...
