I have a craving to relive my youth by virtue of having a bash at Super
Mario Bros :-)

There are plenty of overpriced NES units on Fleabay but I want something
that hasnt had the life thumped out of it.

Is there a new NES clone that I can buy? I'm sure I remember hearing about
something a couple of years ago but can't find anything via Google.

TIA.

Here is an eBay example of one of the many new knock-off brands out
there. This one does not have any built in roms. There were some that
did, and of those, most did not take external carts. Those were the
50,000 in one controller shaped game systems of a few years back at the
kiosks at the malls. No surprise that it was a couple of dozen games
with many slight variations over and over again.

The thing about these knock-offs is that they are a mixed bag of
results. I've heard some very good things about some, and nothing good
about others. One research option is to google group archive this
newsgroup (rec.games.video.nintendo) and rec.games.video.classic from
2005 to 2006 on keywords like NES top loader and chinese (or hong knog)
NES and read what was posted about various models.
