Questions about Xbox360

But I'm thinking of buying a console. It would be hooked up to a 52" Sony Bravia
TV. I have a couple of questions. The first is probably a crazy question in this
particular group, but is xbox the best of the consoles? How does it compare with
like Play Station? Also, is xbox hi-def? Right now I only have a couple of games
in mind, Ace Combat (my son has it and I like it), MLB2K10, and Madden football.
And maybe a war shoot-em up game down the line. Sorry for any stupid questions,
but I'm an older guy, recently retired and I'm not all that familiar with
gaming. Computers on the other hand, I know inside out.

I doubt you'll get a definitive answer to this. You get Microsoft
haters who will automatically buy the PS3 and vice-versa.
The things to bear in mind are
- not all games are available on both consoles so check the games you
are likely to buy.
- PS3 is more expensive.
- XBOX 360 has/had reliability issues.

I suspect either console would be good (I have only experience of the
360.)
If I was rich I would buy the PS3. However, as I am not, I would buy
the Xbox. If you do buy an Xbox get one with a HD.

That question will invite lots of rhetoric from both sides of the
Sony/Microsoft chasm. I like the Xbox360 for a lot of reasons, most notably
that it's not a Sony product, and therefore won't have a lot of built-in
obsolescence coming back to bite you in the next few years. Unlike Sony,
Microsoft has clearly stated that they're not coming up with The Next
Console You'll Have To Buy Just To Continue Using Their Online Service.

Yes, the Xbox360 is HD, and produces a great picture on our 40" Philips.
I'm going to upgrade it to one of the 50" Panasonics in the future, and
anticipate no problems there either.

I've been working on PCs since 1980, so I'm a tech skeptic in an alpha-test,
see-how-it-breaks kind of way. I was shopping for controllers to use with
my PC just to see how awkward they might or might not be with my old
favorite, QuakeWars Enemy Territory. My wife pre-empted me several
Christmases ago and bought the Xbox360, and I haven't regretted it yet. We
had a fatal error on one a little over a year ago, the cursed E73 screen;
and within a few weeks we had a replacement despite an overload of their
German service center with E73 problems. Because all games, accounts etc
are saved on the detachable hard drive I lost nothing at all. I don't think
Sony would be so forthcoming in such a situation.

360 pro and a 1 year old elite). i have no issues with any of these systems.
the graphics are the same on both, i find it easier to navigate the menus on
the 360 easier. i have netflix also, its easier to use on the 360. i find
that racing games are better on the 360, maybe i just like the controller
better. all my systems are hooked up to hd flatscreens, WAY better then old
tv. the 360 has a longer warranty then the ps3. the advantage to the ps3 is
the blueray, but we dont use that. hope this helps..... brent

The new Xbox 360s only have 1 year warranty. No more 3 years for
RROD.
I prefer the xbox controllers too.
