Someone in my area has been raiding all my thrift stores. It's gotta be
someone on here... well, then again, maybe not. Here's the deal:

I went to 7 thrift stores today, and I found one cart. No really... not
one cart that I didn't have, not one cart that I wanted, I really mean
*one* stinking little cart. It was a Colecovision Congo Bongo for 50
cents, which was okay, but it was my ONLY FIND for the day.

Every one of these stores usually has a few good carts, and loads of
commons. But now, they are all gone... pacmen, asteroids, space
invaders, combats... all of em. Gone. I don't get it...

Not someone on here I guess. They wouldn't be snatching up commons like
that. I think I may be in for a LONG dry spell...

Hiya..

Just a guess, but...
Perhaps they were thrown away? It is been known not to be beyond thrifts to
throw stuff away which doesn't sell.
Anyways... we can hope it is JUST a 'LONG dry spell'

That does seem to happen. I pretty much know the carts that are in the thrift
stores I frequent. Every so often everything seems to disappear, sometimes
the way you say (Combats & PacMan with 'em), but just this week one place
that usually seemed safe dropped down to nothing but Pacman, Combat,
Defender and Asteroids. Except they did not take Channel F or Oddysey 2
carts, of which there were quite a few. Whoever it is is just taking Atari
games.

I hope so... maybe it's possible, since all of the thrift stores are
under the same two companies. I guess they could have had a "toss em
out" order from the big shots... if there are big shots at those types
of places. :)

I think that the name of that person is Mr. Sum Guy, perhaps a Chinese
national (based upon the name) who apparently has been doing this all
over the country, as for the past several weeks I have too been being
shut out,. When I ask the workers if they have any carts in back they
say they did have a whole box, but Sum Guy came in last week and
bought them all.

Obviously another attempt to steal our technology! Alert US customs
right away!

Aha! He's Chinese! That explains it!

He buys up all the Pac Man and Combat carts, and ships them to China where
they break them open and repackage them as "pirate" carts, then they get
sent to third world countries where they sell for ten bucks each.

FYI, those of you in Austin may have noticed the lack of consoles at the
Goodwill on 183 near Burnet. I asked them about this once, and they said
"Some guy comes in and buys them all up." SO WATCH FOR HIM!

FYI, I retract my earlier statement... I just went to one of my local
haunts today and scored big. Nothing in the 100 dollar range, but there
are many good rare ones... look for my semi-brag post to come as soon as
I can find the time to type in the games.

Attention: DO NOT move to Colorado and expect to find any carts/classic
systems. I lived in Ft. Collins, CO, from 1991-1995, and in all that
time I saw *one* 2600, for $70, at the flea markets and thrift stores.
Other thrifts in the Northern Colorado area yielded very much the same
results. That was, without doubt, the most unbelievable classic
wasteland I have ever seen. If I hadn't moved to Utah a couple months
ago and discovered the Deseret Industries thrifts, I'd be tearing my
hair out in large chunks.

Well, while Ft Collins is a beautiful area of the state, it certainly is
not an urban Mecca. If you venture down south a ways to Denver you'd
find losts of classic stuff and the mother of all flea markets - Mile
High. Anyone who wants directions just give a holler.

I was in a Goodwill in norfolk Va.
There was a big "dumping area" in the back. Anything they didi't want went
thetre.
People could look and buy. But stuff was alwasy being thrown out.
Luckily, I resuced a CV Roller COntroller (all but the Right top button works).

Word on the street is, this multi-millionare individual is in fact buying
up these commons, replacing the labels with new ones containing the word
'Taiwan' in bold letters on the bottom, and selling them as label
variations! At lest we now know what the former Froggo execs are up to
these days.

I found the same thing, I went to a Goodwill that usually has a bunch of
Atari games, but they were ALL gone (I mean like 10 Combats), but the
Intellivision games were all there. Now this Goodwill usually charges
$1.99 each game, and I don't think that even a dummy would pay $2 each
for a Combat. Anyway, I have a place that I happened upon by accident
that I have got 1 good cart this weekend - XonoX Chuck Norris/Art Duel!
I know it isn't the greatest, but my first double-ender (I do have a
Robinhood single-ender I got from the same place).

If it was in the Seattle/Vancouver then it was me on my holiday :-).
I really like your thrift stores, we don't have anything like that
in Germany. I'm glad I had a rental car and a loving wife ;-).

Bye,

bring home)
