Stella 96 is an Atari 2600 emulator. Currently, it is a work-in-progress
and should be consider ALPHA level software. However, you can play
games starting with this release. This release consists of a source code
distribution that's known to compile under Linux using GCC 2.7.2 (it may
compile on other Unix machines as well). This distribution does not
contain any 2600 ROMs and please don't write me asking for ROMs because
they're copyrighted! If you own any of the Activision Action Packs you
can use the ROM images from it with Stella 96.

Supported Systems
=================

Stella 96 is currently supported on the following systems:

* Linux 1.x.x (SVGALIB, X-Windows)

* Stella 96 should compile under most Unix operating systems as long as
it has X-Windows install. However, the current support for using the
keyboard as a joystick is not very good.

Required Software/Hardware
==========================

Stella 96 requires the following software and hardware:

* ANSI C++ Compiler (GCC 2.7.2 is known to work)

* SVGALIB and/or X-Windows

* Linux kernel joystick driver (not really required but strongly suggested)

* 2600 ROM images

* At least a 486 DX4 100 with a fast video card
