What is your source for these ratings? I recently received several old
Genesis titles for my collection from a friend, some of which I had
never heard of before and I'm curious about how rare they are. I asked
about a Genesis rarity guide in rgvs, but nobody there could help me.

There is a Genesis/Megadrive rarity list in the works but it's still a
long way off until we can finish the list of all the releases. Since a
good number of Genesis games are still on the shelves, some even at full
price, releasing a full rarity list at this time would be kind of
pointless. At this point in the Genesis' history it's more worthwhile to
buy what you like or want to play at decent prices and if it turns out to
be rare in a few years then consider it a bonus.
I might at some point post my own opinions on the rarity of the
earlier releases.
As to Brian's rarities:
*In general* RPG's for the Genesis were made in lesser numbers than other
carts, and coupled with the fact that people tend to hold onto them make
them much harder to find in the wild. There are exceptions though, and I
do seem to find Renovation RPG's (except maybe Master of Monsters) more
often than others such as Koei's. I can't really challenge his assessment
of Ultimate Qix. The word 'rare' does get abused more often these days,
take one browse of ebay... where even dirt is 'rare' :-)
If you want to look at the list (still very much a work in progress, lots
of errors and omissions):

Yeah, I think you e-mailed me about the list you were building after I
asked in r.g.v.sega about a rarity list. I checked out the listing you
have so far and discovered there are many more titles then I was ever
aware of!
BTW, the main reason I want one is as a matter of curiousity - it's nice
to know if I have something special in my collection (that is, something
that others recognize as special). The other reason is trade bait - if I
know a particular title is hard to get, then I'll usually buy it knowing
I can trade it for something good later on.
