I'm just getting started with my Genesis collection, and I need some good
games to play. I like action/quest type games (like the Zelda series I
guess) and puzzle games like Klax. I would also like to get some RPG's.
So if you have the time, let me know the good from the bad through email
or post.
Thanks in advance,
Ferg
RPGs:
Shining in the Darkness (RPG)
Shining Force (strategy/RPG)
Shining Force II (strategy/RPG)
Phantasy Star II (RPG)
Phantasy Star IV (RPG...don't get Phantasy Star III, though, it sucks)
Beyond Oasis (action/RPG)
Land Stalker (action/RPG)
Columns (puzzle)
I've played all of these except Land Stalker and Columns, those are a
friends' recommendations (so don't blame me if you don't like 'em).^_^

As far as puzzle games go, Mean Bean Machine is my all-time favorite on
the genny, if not period. It is a great game.
Never got into the RPG style games, so I can't really help you there...

Beyond Oasis and Light Crusader are both good action RPG's. I've heard
Landstalker is also good but I've never played it. I have played Dark
Saviour on Saturn (in a way it's the sequel to Landstalker I'm told) and
it's good.

My favorite of all time was Toe Jam and Earl. I saw a used copy
at Babbages for $9.99 earlier this week. The gameplay is very
similar to that found in a D&D type game (mixed with Looney Toons),
earning strength points and magic points at each level.
One great thing about the game is that it's random.
I hate to say anymore because it's really fun to discover
the different spells. It's great the first time you successfully
tippy-toe up to Santa though!

Because I'm a dope I forgot to mention that I really like Pinball carts. I know about
Crue Ball and I think a dragon pinball. If anyone could help with these also I would
greatly appreciate it.

My recommendations: D&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun
off the top of my head:
Sonic Spinball (Sega),
Psycho Pinball (Codemasters) <-- Was this released here for the Genesis?
I know they've rereleased it on the Megadrive in a 2-in-1 cart with Micro
Machines in the UK.
Dragon's Crush/Devil's Crush (Tengen/Namco?) <-- Devils Crush is the
Megadrive Name

Wardner!
It's a scrolling arcade/action/adventure game.
It has cute Japanese-style graphics.

Of the 2, Dragon's Fury and Revenge, I think Fury (the first) is the better
game. Also check out Virtual pinball which lets you design and save your own
tables using a bunch of different pre-made bumpers, rails, targets, etc.

Devil's Crush! Best console pinball game made!
Actually, the Genesis version is called Dragon's Fury. The MegaDrive
version is Devil's Crash. Either way, it's an awesome game.
The sequel (Dragon's Revenge) isn't nearly as good.

I love genesis pinball. I like Dragon's fury & revenge. I also like the
music in Cru ball. I like virtual pinball since it gives you a lot of
options.
that's probably "moon ranger" from bunch games. it's among the rarer
nintendo games, but i wouldn't pay $9 for it quite yet because NES
games are just going to get cheaper and cheaper as time goes on.
what's more, the game itself is horrible.

If you can track down a copy of Crusader of Centy, get it. I had the
game but traded it before I realized how rare it was :( It's one of the
harder to find Genesis games. It plays just like the Zelda/Neutopia
type games and is pretty fun.

Let me tell ya, if you can get passed the funky isometric view, Landstalker
puts Zelda to SHAME! Also try Beyond Oaisis, it's neat.
As for puzzle games... well, Columns is pretty good, even if you can cheat
just by pressing the pause button.. Dr. Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine is
kinda the same from what I understand.
Just look around. There are more great Genesis games then you'll have time
to play them all.
Except for form Tengen games, most of the "not affiliated" carts for the NES
are not worth much financially, but can be quite fun. I got two of these
games; Dudes with Attitudes and Krazy Kreatures, and they are both really
fun. BUT . . . .
$9 is a little high for these games. Funcoland stores sell them for $1.99 to
$4.99, pending the title. I paid $5 each for the two I listed.

RPG:
Shining Force I & II
Shining in the Darkness
Sword of Vermillion
Phantasy Star 2-4
Startegy:
Master Of Monsters (One of my favs on ANY system-also has a semi-sequel
on Sega CD called Dark Wizard)
Dune (prequel to Command and Conquer-kind of hard to find though-but a
GREAT game!)
Fight Through Time Tyrants (Another cool one, kind of a sleeper hit IMO)
StarFlight (great RPG/Exploration game)
Star Control (one of the best two player games ever!)
Herzog Zwei (also hard to find-but it's a classic!)
Platform/Misc:
Earthworm Jim
Bubsy (1, not the sequel)
Any Sonic Game
Rock and Roll Racing
Desert Strike, Urban Strike, Jungle Strike
Well, that's a start. So, what else does anyone love/hate on Genesis?
Brian
Probably Moon Ranger by Bunch Games. Listed as an "Uncommon", but I've
never seen one around here.
As for Funcoland, they generally won't buy those games any more,
particularly because they don't work with all NES units.

Hello!
I think that $9 for it is a good or bad price, depending on who you are.
For instance, if you just want to play the games for the fun, I think $9
is probably to high of a price for it, but if you are a collector, like
me, and just want the cart for its "rarity", I would pay $9 for it.
Thanks,

Inconvienent? Hell, they don't have one within 200 miles of me! Of
course, if they ever did decide to come to San Antonio or Austin, it could
start one interesting war. We already have Game World and Gamefellas;
both are local businesses in their respective cities.

Isn't service in used game stores generally deplorable? They are too used
to dealing with kids, who may not have the ability to go elsewhere to do
business, and treat any customer who comes in like crap. For the 100%-300%
markup they get on used systems & games, I'd expect red-carpet treatment for
those kinds of profit margins.

One play I went to that mixed good service with some rowdy young 14
year olds was in New York City, tons of kids trying a Playsation game
that was just released, but they gave me fast and respectable service
on my Jaguar purchases (They are also the only place I know that still
has Atari Karts).

They take for the most part working systems in on exchange, which they
then proceed to clean then resell. They give you $10 use $.15 worth of
cleaning supplies, then say "here buddy $26". I had to stand in a short
line almost an hour just to get a copy of SNES Fighters History at
Funcoland, the game isnt that great, so you think they would be willing
to part with it, but an hour in line is crazy, too bad Sun TV didnt
have clearance bins of it like they had other SNES games.
Better go back. You never know when that Vectrex might sneak through.
jt
Funny you should say that...
Just a couple days ago I took the twenty minute trip to my favorite used
game store. They are really getting into the classic scene, which
unfortunately means they are getting wise to what things are worth.
Still, they aren't out of line regarding what things go for on the
internet. Anyways, I'm checking out a few games in their glass counter,
and I notice they had about 20 Vectrex carts! My eyes just about popped
out of my head. I asked how much they were, and she said they were part
of a package deal - they also had a boxed Vectrex to go with them! The
box was a bit worn and had some small rips, but was mostly intact.
The price? Oh, a mere $250! Considering loose Vec systems often go for
$100, and loose carts for $10 each, I figure their price was dead on -
especially since you don't have to pay shipping!
