I know this group is for arcade discussions only, but I saw somebody
talking about Street Fighter II cart. seen at the Winter CES for the Super
NES, and that it's very much like the arcade version. Can anybody tell
me more about this? Like how much is it going to cost? When is it going
to be available? Damn, I should have bought the SNES instead of the
Genesis.

I know about as much as anyone might, except for the CES appearance! Tell
me more about that if you can...
For the S-NES, it should be out in June or July. It's supposed to be
virtually carbon-copy, and there are a few pics of it...I tend to agree with
such an opinion, at least as far as graphical display goes. This game is the
only reason I ever bought a S-NES; otherwise the system sits in a corner of
my closet. The game is supposed to be released with custom joystics
(hopefully optional, though I WILL buy them!). You can count on it being
at least a 12-megabit cart, maybe more, and hopefully they'll use
compression routines to simulate even more rom. But it will be somewhat
worse, rest assured... not in gameplay (that'll be the cheapest to replicate)
and probably not in graphics (except maybe fewer colors). I think they'll
make the sound suffer; there are a TON of digitized sounds, from the voices
to the various instruments in the music... they'll probably have to ditch
a few, and I think it's their best option. Keep in mind that one of the
S-NES's graphics modes matches EXACTLY that of Capcom's arcade standard
(what we see Strider, Willow, SF2, etc on). Though the game is supposed to
show up HERE by June/July, you can count on a much earlier arrival in
Japan... If you didn't get your S-NES early (first half-month shipment or
better) then don't buy the Japanese cart; Nintendo accidentally left the
necessary hardware for running Japanese carts in the very first few S-NES's,
but fixed their mistake thereafter. (I got mine super-early, just because
of this fact).
Fortunately, not a whole heck of a lot is being coordinated when you play
a game of SF2, so just MAYBE the S-NES's puny processor can handle it...
but if not, there's the RUMOR of a 33Mhz add-on processor. The S-NES does
have the capabilities to run a complete, perfect copy of SF2... it has a
full megabyte of ram, which is certainly enough to handle the data for
two different characters at once... The problem is the cartridges... I'd
place a bet that when the CD-ROM comes out for the S-NES, we'll see
"Street Fighter II: complete CD" soon thereafter.
Don't forget to tell us all about the Winter CES appearance! I'm sure the
mag EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) has something to say about it too...
Hope this info is helpful/interesting... and I REALLY hope the game comes
out sooner than June!! Bleah!

Why are people making such a big deal out of this arcade conversion
thing? You know it is not going to be better than the arcade version.
What home system game converted from arcade is actually better than the
original version? Altered Beast is the only one which comes to my mind.
Genesis Altered Beast has parallax scrolling, while arcade AB does NOT
(surprise)!

When SNES was coming out, people were making such a big deal out of
Final Fight, but Streets of Rage for Genesis came out and many people
think SoR is better than FF in many ways. I enjoy SoR more than ARCADE
Final Fight. I have this feeling that Sega is secretly making a game
for Genesis which can embarass SF II for SNES. Look what they did with
Sonic the Hedgehog. Sega is a company with a lot of tricks up their
sleeves. It that won't happen, I think SF II is so popular that (there
are actually people buying a home system which costs around $200 JUST
for this an OK game) home version of SF II will be available for
virtually ALL the home systems (maybe even Gameboy).

What I am trying to say is that DON'T buy SNES just for SF II, and
don't regret buying other systems because SF II will probably be
available for all the systems, just like Pac-Man is available for almost
all the systems I know. I just got news that SF II will be available
for PC-Enging CDROM (TurboGrafx CDROM in Japan), but Capcom won't let
NEC bring it here because, according to a person, Capcom wants to get as
much profit as they can from SNES SF II, which is also programmed by
Capcom.

Anything having to do with Nintendo has a history of NOT living up to
its hype, so don't expect too much out of SNES SF II.

My final comment: I HATE Capcom, capitalistic assholes!!!

Yup, you should have bought the SNES alright! :)

Supposedly, it will be out in June and cost estimate is now at $79.
Nintendo is trying to lower the price though... Capcom is being obstinant.
(They know how much the game is worth!!!)

How good/durable are these joysticks? Are they sturdy enough to withstand
the everpresent abuse SF2 joysticks everywhere receive? Are there
more durable alternatives out there somewhere? I just don't want to spend
the hundreds of dollars it takes to buy the system and then watch me and
my brother rip through the joysticks in a month.
