Hey,

I'm almost done with my MAME project in a sweet showcase arcade
cabinet. However I have the followiing problems. I recently set up my
monitor (35 inch) and I have issues with the vertical hold once I
select a hame from MAME32. Am I doing something wrong (I'm using
Powerstrip and a Radeon 9600 video card)? I have decided which
emulator to use (even though I'm testing MAME32) so if a different
emulator gives me better results I'm willing to change.

I also recently purchased the ARcade VGA card (2.0 I think). Does
this card eliminate teh vertical hold issues? I haven't installed
because I was having problems with the drivers.

Thanks for your help!

What kind of inputs do you have on your monitor? Is it a professional
A/V monitor with RGBHV, RGBH, RGB inputs? or a computer monitor with
VGA inputs? Sometimes with RGB signals, you have to combine the H and
V signals to get a composite signal and plug it into the H input on
the monitor.

Another thing that can cause the V-hold problem is old caps. If you
are using an old arcade monitor, you could do a cap kit on it.

But best to look at what kind of signal inputs you are using first.

I'm using an arcade monitor. I bought it with the cabinet. I could
be wrong, but I don't believe the monitor itself to be the problem. I
have no problem until I start switching between games otherwise its
rock solid. My monitor does have some a number of pins that feed
directly into a device that has dials for vertical hold, horizontal
hold, etc. Could the resolution of the different games be causing my
vertical hold issues?

I had a similar problem and found my MAME program was switching HZ
frequencies. Daphne worked great, but when I switched to MAME I lost
vert. hold. I corrected by going in to my settings and making sure
MAME was set for 60 hz.. Problem solved.
Hope this helps

I have had issues like that using the AVGA card where I can get the
MALA front end (game selection menu) to hold still, but as soon as the
game starts, I lose sync. or I can get one game to sync up, then I
change to a different game and I loose it again. Then I tested the
setup on different monitors and all games and menu were solid. It
turned out to be that the arcade monitor was old, and the caps were
out of tolerance. My friend change out the caps and it fixed the sync
issue.

I also had another arcade monitor that was displaying fine, then it
started to drift out of sync.

Your monitor may have out of tolerance components. If a cap kit is
available, you could change them out.

Try testing your setup on a known good arcade monitor if you have one
available.
