but i dont understand why you wont leave the game on for more than a few
minutes?
it would be beneficial for the bidders or potential owner to know from you that
the board and monitor work perfectly for such a high dollar machine (bin
$3500). only way to do this is to play the game for an extended period.
most of the games i sell i leave running for 24 hours contantly.
good luck

It uses a standard cinemtronics xy monitor and modified star castle
boards so the value is in the cabinet and artwork and not so much in
the electronics.

Yeah but hw do you think the buyer would react if the game konked out within
a few hours of being used? He'd be PISSED. What would your reaction be?
"Oh well" ??
>so a standard working cin. xy monitor has little value to this game?
Well at most I would figure a Cine XY monitor to be worth $400 (and
that's stretching it). Let's use a generous figure of $1k for the
electronics, that still leaves $2500 for the cabinet and artwork which
is where the value lies.
i vaguely recall dan mitchell paying $2k (?) for his about 6 months ago,
working and in good condition.
maybe its worth more now?
It's also in his best interest, and his very nature, to be fully
honest in his ebay postings. I've seen the machine, it is in exactly
the condition he's described it.
So what if it konks out a few minutes after the buyer has received it?
Then that buyer should not be upset. The buyer should bid
accordingly knowing full well that at some point, the machine may konk
out. Whether it is on April 30th, 2004 or April 30th, 2024.
Remember, he's not saying that it will konk out tomorrow, but he's
also not saying that it will konk out ever. He doesn't know, the
buyer doesn't know, you don't know, and I don't know.
If you don't like honest sellers though, look somewhere else.

i wish him well in his auction as i did then.
i have no issues with him.
I was basing the value on that BIN but you are assuming star castle
parts are worth more than $400-600. Even at $2k, the majority of the
value is in the cabinet and artwork which is what I said. It might be
worth $3500 to someone (not me, I sold one ~ 8 yrs ago for ~$500).
What DM paid is irrelevant because this is the only WOTW currently on
the market so it's not like someone who wants it has other
alternatives at this time

Sorry, no not directly at your post... I meant to reply to the
original post by Todd himself and directed more at the thread in
general... I musta mis-clicked... not the first time, probably not the
last.

Absolutely. If it works when I buy it, I own any issues afterwards.
Whether it takes one hour or one decade to fail on me, its my problem
and not the sellers. 20 year old video games are very unpredictable
electronically, and if someone doesn't know this they should think
twice about buying. All seasoned collectors carry this philosophy in
my opinion.

if i was in your shoes, i would also keep it on for long enough to:
1. snap a pic showing it works.
2. flip it on long enough to let the buyer play it until they are
happy. and pray that nothing strokes out during that time.
i also wouldnt be as generous enough as you are to be willing to ship
it. frankly, i would insist on a pickup - and pray all the while til
the buyer got it home that it still works.
best of luck to you... it is a quality machine.
Harry

I guess it was worth $3500 + shipping to one person
too bad you sold yours for such little money. guess your buyer made a wise
investment from you.
:P
It was a long time ago (~1996) and it was to a friend who needed it to
complete his Cinematronics collection. I think I traded a Phoenix for
it but who knew the game would be so valued? Many collectors are in a
different income bracket today so $3500 today is easier to swallow
than it was 8 years ago.
Gaymond
I would post a price and personally leave it on for a week and just
say: The item that you are bidding on is sooooo rare....do you want
the cabinet or not. I have been on the good and bad side or trades but
never a no item for cash. This Jesse B. good vs .bad deal kills me. I
would like anybody in this group or world have me send them $5.00 or
$1000 for an item and then no delivey or whatever and let them deal
with a person who lives their life on priciples deal with the
situation!!! Come on Jesse screw with me! What has this guy ripped off
..in total cash from the group? Where does he reside?
