Hey all,

As I prepare to pain my cabinet I'm wondering if there's a proven
formula anyone's developed. I've filled the larger gouges and sanded
thoroughly. I'm planning to primer, and then role on a good semi-gloss
enamel paint, with a very fine nap roller.

I'd really appreciate any painting advise if anyone out there has some
experience.

Thanks!

Small point, but I'll say it anyways....as with painting a house, be sure to
use more than one coat!

I repainted a Galaga similar to how you described. I'm not real happy with
the outcome of using a semigloss enamel. In retrospect, I think I would use
a flat black latex paint and then put a sealer coat of clear semigloss over
it.

Spray (w/ gun and compressor, not can) will give you the best results.

This past weekend, I went to a Glidden store and got gloss/oil/enamel paint
mixed for Ms Pac blue and the yellow. It was like $8/quart. I haven't
started painting, still prepping the cabinet. I'm going to do a museum
quality..hah..level full restoration. I figure that if I'm going to repaint
and keep a Ms Pac, I might as well go 'all the way.'

I've found 1/4" nap rollers..bought one that I'll try..seems to be the
shortest nap. I'm going to do the method of masking and rolling the
separate colors. If stencils were easy to make or cheap, which they're not,
I'd go that route and definitely use a sprayer. I do have a large
compressor and a couple of guns. If I was spraying the whole cabinet a
solid color (like Galaga), I'd take that route.

My OPINION is that an oil enamel is best. Latex just isn't as durable and
is more likely to peel. The original factory paints were probably lacquer
based..whatever was the cheapest method on the assembly line, as these
things were MASS produced.

A semi-gloss enamel would probably look good. Versus a gloss, the finish
would probably be more forgiving and better to hide mistakes.

Good luck..please post pics to show your results!
