Hi all,

I have the following board out of a 'B.G. Video Ltd' cocktail cab. The
cab and ROMs are labelled up as 'Cosmic Wars'. I've never heard of
this game, nor can I find any information so I'm assuming it's a clone
of something.

The board reports BAD RAM 1 on boot, however not having a schematic or
anything, no idea what RAM is which. I have taken out and cleaned the
sockets and ICs on 4F and 5F, which are a Mitsubishi M5L510. I found
one of the legs on it to be loose, as in it moves back and forth far
too easily, so it seems like it's snapped/corroded just at the top of
the leg.

Here's a pic of the board:

The only markings I can see are GX-01, it's got a Z80, and looks
remarkably similar to this one I found whilst Googling:
http://users.adelphia.net/~68hc11/bootpac/SSegapac.jpg (from
http://users.adelphia.net/~68hc11/bootpac/bootpac.htm).

Any information on the Cab/Game/Board and advice on replacing the RAM
very much appreciated.

It looks like a bootleg Galaxian board to me. I'd bet you can use
Midway's schematics to repair that board.

Chris-

That's listed as a MAME "wanted ROM set":
http://www.mameworld.net/gurudumps/DumpingProject/wanted.html

Agreed it is a Galaxian board set. BAD RAM 1 indicates one or both of
the 2114 RAMs at 7N/7P (under the big ROM daughterboard) are bad, or
possibly an address decoding chip.

To the OP... Tell ya what, since its a wanted ROM set by the MAME
folks if you want to send the board to me I'll fix it for parts only
and dump the ROMs.

LMK if you want to do this.

That list can't be current, since I see things like
Quartet 2 listed (it's been in MAME for years). I had
a Body Slam board (sold it), but didn't know they were
looking for it. :( Good luck on finding the Sun
version of Alien Syndrome! That one is rare. :(

Thanks for the information everyone.

Thanks for the offer Matt - where are you based? I'm not too keen on
posting the board but i'd like to get the ROMs dumped somehow to help
out. I am in the UK but was just considering placing an order with
arcadechips.com for the parts I need as none of the usual places stock
them.
