Another good reason to play TP'84 in a Gyruss is the stereo sound.
You say "but Matt, TP'84 has mono sound, you silly git....".
Take a look at the TP'84 sound board and you'll see it was
initially designed for stereo amplifiers just like Gyruss, but
that plan was scrapped at some point in development. If you
populate the second audio section (and cut the trace that
was added to combine the two channels into mono) you will get
stereo sound. Now don't get too excited... there's not really
anything written in the software to take full advantage of
stereo (like Gyruss does). You do get different sounds out of
the channels, but there aren't any nifty effects. Still sounds
pretty cool though. If you want to add stereo to your board
just check out the sound board schematics and you'll see the
optional components surrounded by dashed lines. And don't
bother installing the extra 76489 sound chip and its companion
4066... there's nothing in the software that uses it and you'll
just get some annoying crap noise out of it.
I've had some pictures up on my website for ages...
I just never bothered to make a page for them:

http://www.scoresaves.info/hacks/tp84stereo2.jpg
I haven't made a page for the input mod either. If anyone is
interested just let me know and I'll send you the ROM image or
send you a chip if you don't have your own burner.
Matt
P.S. Don't forget about the TP'84 high score save:
http://www.scoresaves.info/scoresaves/TP84HS.html
Buy a kit and I'll throw in the EPROM for the input mod for free.
Patrick
Thanxx for doing this Matt! :-)
