Hi Folks:

I appear to have stumbled upon an original, working Mat Mania. Photos
at:

http://irace.net/images/matmania

klov.com says this is an uncommon specimen. My questions are:

1) Do you agree this is an original?
2) Is it valuable to a collector, given its condition?
3) If so, would you like to make an offer?
4) Will I be struck down by an angry video game god if I eBay the
boards and backglass and turn it into a MAME cabinet?

Thanks in advance,

I don't think you can do any worse to it than whats already been done...

Don't think Mat Mania ever came in a dedicated cabinet, want to say it
was kit only. Another thing is to not believe what Klov says is
uncommon, since it is going off VAPS audits and most people are
probably embarrassed to say they have one in their collection. I say,
go ahead and Ebay the board and marquee, it should net you about $5-10
which would be enough to buy a few buttons for your MAME cab! Might as
well make it mame since usually restoring a Tempest costs way more than
if you bought one complete!!

HTH,
Brian

Thanks guys. Now I can admit I had never heard of Mat Mania and was
totally nonplussed when I played it. And it makes me extremely happy to
know that my prized mame box will have been built from the ashes of one
of the best games of all time by good old Atari.

Sweet!

Photos of the mame conversion will appear at http://irace.net/mame over
the months to come.

Thanks again,

Really, don't think I have ever come across one or seen a picture of a

Mat Mania was only in kit form and introduced in 1985 at the AMOA show.
If you think you have a dedicated one, You don't, someone just did a
really nice conversion.

Was it tag team wrestling that was dedicated?

Mat Mania is one of those games I've seen so many times in Sega/Gremlin
cabs that I would have guessed it was dedicated :-) I never researched
it further, by the way the blue buttons were a hot commodity a few
years back for Joust restorations- they were sometimes worth more than
the whole game!

Yes DECO's Tag Team wrestling was available in a dedicated cabinet.

I love Mat Mania. It's still one of my favorites and the reason I got
into this hobby in the first place. I've done a lot of research on MM
and can guarantee that it never came in a dedicated cabinet and isn't
worth jack to most people.

And I know it's already been said, but that VAPS rarity rating on KLOV
is complete shit. If anyone believes that Major Havoc is common and Mat
Mania is uncommon, then I've got a sweet-ass uncommon Mat Mania here
I'll sell cheap for $1000. :)
