Hi all,
Is the rapid fire (shots moving much faster up the screen) just a ROM
upgrade? I sold a Galaga board and apparently it has very fast shots, I
would like to send him the orginal ROM but Im not sure which one it is.
thanks

On the original Galaga there were two Rapid fire options.

Hardware: A small PCB that attaches to the wire harness...
This option will allow you to press and hold the fire button
and will constantly fire...however will not effect the speed.

Software: I have forgotten the location but two-bit-score sells them...
(maybe give them a call.)
With this new ROM the fire speed is very fast and allows you to
fire another shot without waiting for your last fire to hit an enemy
or exit the top of the screen.

On the bootleg version the location is 4J.

The rapid fire in question is a single 2732 rom at location 3j on the Galaga
cpu board. It also works on the bootleg board. Galaga still will only allow 2
shots at the same time but the bullets move so fast that you can barely press
the fire button fast enough to get more than 1 going.

Does anyone know about the bug in the Galaga code that makes the bees stop
shooting at you? You can get millions of points and play for hours on 1
credit.

Yeah Jim, just leave the left blue bee's of each row and let those 2 fly
for 5 minutes or so. You will know when they stop firing at you.
Make sure you let them go thru the bottom of the screen at least 3 times
without firing. Watch out for the shot that wraps around and comes
out from the right side of the screen.

If you just leave 1 of the bee's it will take around 20 minutes :(

Here's the data for the rapid fire 3J EPROM. The checksum is B7FF.
Attachment follows.

I assume this is different then the built in rapid fire that you
change by plugging in the control panel connecter at a different spot?
I think that just set it up in continuous fire mode but too slow to be
useful.

Thanks for the data. I'll have to try it out.

The 2nd part of this attachment never made it to me :-(
any chance you could re-post the rom image, email it to me, or point me
in the direction of a web page where it can be downloaded from?
Cheers.

rom 3J is the same.
