Wasn't the whole website vectrex.com offered for sale/takeover recently?
Who's the owner of vectrex.com?

Right, VGDB was one of the first and few Vectrex databases I know. Would be
good if the data could be put online, again.

thanks Mara'akate. Thank goodness for web archiving.
I think Chris Romeo was originally hosting the database. He was the
one I recall offering the vectrex.com name forsale.

Very good to have the info archived. I'll create a backup copy of the
archived VGDB just in case...

if I new who owned the information, and they gave me permission, I
would gladly host it on my website.
Or maybe it could go on the Vectrex Wiki.

I was the one who gathered the VGDB together, and you have my
permission.

Thank you very much for the permission, Manu! Looks like there will be
something like a new VGDB in near future. If needed I'd help to copy/paste
text from VGDB to the Vectrex Wiki or similar.

Currently, VectrexMad! is on holidays for some days, let's see what he
thinks/plans once he's back.

I'm back! Thanks Manu for the permission.
I think the best place is on Jeroen's wonderful website. - I use
Jeroen's website all the time as a reference.
But if he doesn't have the time, I can host on my website (or as
backup).

You could give HTTrack a try. Also, wget is more powerful and should
certainly work but is more difficult to use.

I do have the backup online (but not on web) and would be happy to
send it out to anyone who want to host the site given Manu's approval.

My friend Jason works at the Internet Archive, and he recently created
a Vectrex Collection. It's here: http://www.archive.org/details/vectrex

I told him that the Vectrex Game Database was the best Vectrex db in
the world. Could you mail a copy of it me? I'm at
bea...@zombieworld.com. I will make sure it gets into his hands (and
the Internet Archive) and is saved forever.

Thanks!

Did the site make it back online somewhere in the last six months?

If not, with Manu's permission, I'd like to get it online at a vectrex subdomain at Rotheblog.com.

For all I know, Vectrex game database (VGDB) is not back online. There is
the Vectrex Wiki which steadily grows:
http://vectrex.wikia.com/wiki/Vectrex_Wiki

A VGDB which can be edited by many people would be cool, so perhaps we could
try to make a Vectrex Wiki page "VGDB" with all the contents of the VGDB
with links to the individual game pages. Though, I'm not sure whether this
would be feasible with the Wiki markups and how much effort this is. Other
opinions?

Thought I’d weigh in on some of this (hey, about TIME I made an
account here, I guess!)...

At first I had said (elsewhere) when the subject was brought up on
reproducing this site somehow on my Vectrex wiki that I would only
want it if the entries were exactly the way they were from the site
originally, which I didn’t know how to go about coding such a thing.
Yeah I know, I run a wiki (two actually), but I’m not real
knowledgeable on coding though. I have learned a lot, but there’s
still a ton more for me to!

However, after a bit of time of some thinking about the above, this
shouldn’t really matter (except for a few that might whine about it if
the site wasn’t reproduced exactly as it was, as you can’t please
everybody), and it is a bit doable if a copy were made up on the wiki,
even if someone else decides to go ahead and archive the information
on a site of theirs, as it would be a good idea for others to
contribute to it.

This would be best to only have one or two big entries for all the
games and such, as there wouldn’t be a need to make separate entries
for all games, one for games pages on the wiki that are already
written up, and separate ones for the database. I think one giant
list of all the site’s past content would work, like the list of games
that are already up. Whatever someone wants to click on, it would
probably work with a tabber to reveal the contents. For a tabber
example, check out the entry for Continuum at http://vectrex.wikia.com/wiki/Continuum
(although you’d have to scroll down to the bottom under Links for
them), which has entries for solutions to all puzzles and a review.
Tabbers could be made up so when they’re clicked on they’ll reveal the
content of an entry.

I imagine a giant table could be made up with [most of, which I’ll get
to] the content being reproduced from the site that you would scroll
down and then click on what you’d want to see. Unfortunately as was
mentioned earlier,

some of the wiki coding might end up looking a bit cluttered;
obviously a stack of horizontal tabbers (like on Continuum) isn’t a
problem, but I don’t know if a big string of vertical ones would start
filling up space and making the whole table look ugly. I’ve never
tried that. At least the tabber content wouldn’t be a problem, since
it’s just pretty much copy and paste, along with re-using photos that
were already there for most entries the first time around.

In this manner, there would be improvements this time around, but as
far as other things go, wouldn’t work, unfortunately: for the first
one, obviously games that have come out since the last time the site
was updated would now have a write-up to them. Some photos could be
provided where there weren’t any the first time around (if I remember
correctly, Breakout, the hidden game on Patriots/Vecmania, never had a
photo, for some reason...that’s easily done nowadays). Long gone
links could be recoded/updated (since there’s no more www.vectrexcarts.com,
although the wording could stay, just added to by saying that they’re
available on Classic Game Creations now), along with now dead links
never put in in the first place (such as Christopher Tumber and the
long gone Capital S Software, unless he and/or it finally re-emerges
on the scene :( ).

Unfortunately on the flip side, some things can’t be done: I can’t
recall what the site had exactly on entries, but I do recall ROMs
could be downloaded (again, not counting ones leading to dead links),
however, this is something that Wikia cannot host, as their sites can
only host photos and possibly videos, not ROMs. Many of these,
however, could be recoded to link to several sites that have Vectrex
ROMs, if someone had a site up hosting these, and others left out that
are dead (like the Minestorm 3 hack that had a dead link when I tried
it out last).

So, anyway, a bit of updating to this subject here.
