Hi everybody,

I am a newcomer to the fantastic Vectrex world and community, and
sometimes while I'm researching info about it on the net I found it's
just too late to get something because now it is not available.

This is just the case of the fantastic YASI/Protector wraps made by
Michele Fiori, so I have thought about a possible solution for this.

I am trying to make a layout for the Vectrex so you can put whatever
picture or design you want on it and customize your console according
to your preferences. The idea is to have a template on Photoshop, add
to it your pictures and then print the artwork on vinyl.

For now i have literally scanned the Vectrex side by side and more or
less I can get the pieces I need to make the template and then try to
adjust it to the exact size, but if someone still have the original
sheets made by Michael Fiori, or at least the empty sheet to scan it
the hard work would be done in no time !!

Of course with all respect due to Fiori's work.

So any help is welcome.

Regards, Angel.

Welcome, Angel, to the Vectrex community! Very good to have new members,
here (I'm pretty new, myself).

Good idea to have a Wraps template, the black Vectrex design has a bit scary
touch, making it colourful using wraps is a good thing. Some months ago I've
tried to contact Michael Fiori using his e-mail address, but haven't
received any response. You could also try to contact him, perhaps you are
lucky and have success. His mail address can be found on his Vectrex Wraps
pages or contact me via mail.

Regards, Helmut

Thanks for the info Helmut. I have also tried to contact Fiori a few
months ago, but unfortunately I got no response.

I have a friend who works at a graphic arts store and I have asked her
info about printing on vinyls and the good news is they can be removed
very easily without leaving any glue residue just like Fiori's but
anyways I won't remove the vinyls once sticked to my Vectrex.

Maybe the quality of the vinyl won't be the same but sure it will be
enough for me.

Right now I'm thinking about the artwork design, and I have some ideas
about using pictures from Tron movie.

Regards, Angel.

Almost done.

Right now I'm doing some print tests and adjusting the size of the
pieces.

Thanks to VectrexMad! for his priceless collaboration, and of course
to Michele Fiori for all his original work.

When finished I'll share the templates with everybody.

Regards, Angel.

I'll be really curious to see what artwork you will eventually choose
for your Vectrex. Michele Fiori's overlay really changed the character
of my Vectrex.

Hi there,

Well more or less the templates are finished.

As you can see I have added a few more pieces to cover both tube sides
and the vectrex controller.

I still have to choose an art and print it on vinyl, but by the moment
I'm messing around with this Tron drawing I found on the internet.

Hope you enjoy it !!

Very good effort, Angel! I like the Tron wrap. I'm nosey to see the full
Tron wrap on the Vectrex. Would be good if you could provide the exact
measures /Photoshop template for future use (perhaps one day, another
designer shows up and can use it).

Apart from Tron, will you do other desgins? For which game(s)?

Thanks for your comments.

The first .gif link contains the whole template at 300dpi with exact
measures. You can outline and stroke every piece with the magic wand
tool in Photoshop and you just have it.

Of course I have the original .psd file with every layer, but right
now it's about 70 Megs. I'll try to reduce a bit the weight of the
file and I have no problem to share it with everyone who is interested
on it.

If someone can upload the big .psd to his website, that will be
perfect for me. The whole idea for this project is to share it with
everybody, and let the artist community make and share great designs
for the Vectrex.

I have a few more ideas for other designs, but they aren't based on
actual Vectrex games. By the way my Photoshop designing skills are too
low to create something spectacular.

Regards,

Angel.

Thank you very much, Angel, for the template files.

BTW: JPG is good for photos, for line art and images with few colours (like
your wraps template), PNG is best.

It would be nice to share here your own artworks and designs, if
someone decides to make them.

I have found this online web where you can easily convert images to
scalable vector artwork.

http://vectormagic.com/

The tech has been developed by Stanford University and "it will blow
you away with the quality and ease of use".

Now I'm testing it and hopefully I'll get some artwork done in a few
days.

I have a new design idea from an old spanish comic "Luchadores del
Espacio" Space Fighters in spanish. The story It's like Flash Gordon,
and I love the covers.

Here are some quick tests done in photoshop.

By the way I'm still working on the Tron design.

I really like the wraps approach and your designs. The black, rectangular
design of the Vectrex is unique and retro, but for some people it's a bit
frightening. The wraps really change the look of the Vectrex and make the
Vectrex look friendlier.

Do you intend to sell some wraps once you have finished a design?

Of course, If some of you are interested I could print a few more
vinyls.

It would be an honor for me if you like my designs and want them on
your Vectrex. :-)

That would be cool. How much would such a print cost? How much would
shipping ocst (U.S., Europe, ...)?

The comic stuff looks nice (don't like the Spanish, though), and I assume
your Tron wrap will look nice. We will need a good Tron game, then. ;-)

Ahhh these look really cool, I love the style and the font form the
original design; would definitely be interested in a set of these
exactly as they are in your pics.

Thanks for your comments.

I have to check the shipping costs with my local postal office, but
here you have a link for International Priority Packet and it's quite
expensive.

Possibly cheaper options to the UK although I have family in Madrid so
could have it sent there and pick up some time or get sent to the UK
with other stuff.

Anyway... if you do decide to do a run of them I will definitely be
interested.

Space Fighters wrap finally done (or almost).

Now I have to do some print tests, and let's see how the wrap fits the
Vectrex.

By the way I don't forget about the Tron wrap. ;-)
