So that is an awful question! First of all which bridges am I supposed
to count? Only those between islands in Mälaren? Some of the islands
are in the sea. Other islands sits right between different arms of the
outlet. And some islands would not be islands if it wasn't for human hands.
Other spots would maybe have been islands if man had stayed out. And
there are areas that used to be islands that no longer are without
human intervention. And whatever, the largest part of Stockholm is on
the mainland, so saying that it is made up of 14 islands is not very
accurate. I have difficulties to count to 14. Or stop at 14 depending
on how you count.
And what kind of bridges? Motorways? Railway? Tram? The underground?
I sat down and listed all bridges that is connected to an island on
either side and arrived at a number of 40. But that number may be off
by several. I may have forgotten one or two. I may be incorrectly
counting one bridge as two, because it touches some island on the way.
And Stockholm is not a museum, but bridges come and go.

of us, I had missed a at least three bridges. I was also incorrect in my
recollection how Centralleden and the railway connects from Södermalm and
Norrmalm. Both lands on Riddarholmen and Stadsholmen but I had not counted
all branches. And maybe they shouldn't.
There are also other edge cases. Kungsbron really consists of two
bridges, one for each lane. There are two roads from Stadsholmen to
Norrmalme that leads over Helgeandsholmen. By names thats three
bridges, since Norrbro essentially leads above Helgeandsholmen. But
you can reach the islet from the bridge. (In my original count I had
this as one bridge, but I had forgotten by the other two bridges leading
to and from the island.)
We'll see how many bridges Stephen has found in a couple of days.

town. And, of course if you count bridges that lead from the mainland
to islands that are not part of Stockholm there are a couple more.
As for your map from 1982, I can think four bridges that has been added
since them; three of them are rail bridges. On the other hand, Tranebergs-
bron might have counted as two bridges then, but after the reconstruction
in the beginning of this century, road and the underground share the same
bridge.
Oh, well, since no one got any points, this crap question didn't favour
anyone. But promise that you don't construct questions on such loose
knowledge in the future! :-)

Ah, I see that Calvin guessed 47. That is actually quite a good number.
I think my last count stopped at 43, but the road connection between
Södermalm and the Old Town counts as two bridges. (This area is very
messy.) And I think the underground crosses the waters at Skanstull on a
separate bridge, although I am not sure.
Wikitravel says "some 50" and that number seems a tad high to me, if we
are talking bridges connecting the 14 islands Stockholm is said to made
up of. (Which in itself is inaccurate.) But as I said there are also
bridges that leads to communes outside Stockholm. There are also a couple
of bridges that does not cross water at all, but only cross another
street.
I had notion of most of these bridges before, although, as I said, it's
difficult whether a complex is one, two or more bridges. But there is
actually one bridge that I was completely unaware of, a pedestrian bridge
in the very centre of town. That bridge may be missing on Steven's map
from 1982 as well. (It's missing from Eniro's online maps.)

This "current" event is two months old. A domestic carrier, Tiger Air, has
only recently been cleared to fly again after being grounded by the
aviation authority for safety breaches (nothing to do with the volcano) so
I suspect these two events have been conflated somehow.
