These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2003-02-24,
and should be interpreted accordingly. All questions were written
by members of the Usual Suspects, but have been reformatted and
may have been retyped and/or edited by me. I will reveal the
correct answers in about 3 days.

For further information, including an explanation of the """
notation that may appear in these rounds, see my 2020-06-23
companion posting on "Reposted Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (RQFTCI*)".

I did not write these rounds.

* Game 6, Round 7 - Science - Microbes

We'll give you a disease, condition, or substance, and you identify
the microbial causative agent from the following list:

Acidophilus
Bacillus anthracis
Bortetella pertussis
Candida albicans (or glabrata)
Clostridium botulinum
Escherichia coli
Helicobacter (or Heliobacter) pylori
Herpes zoster
HPV
Legionella pneumophila
Mycobacterium leprae
Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Pasteurella multocida
Plasmodium falciparum
Pseudomonas
Pyrococcus furiosus
Rickettsia

Vibrio cholerae
Yersinia (or Pasteurella) pestis

1. Toxic shock syndrome.
2. Bubonic plague.
3. Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
4. Stomach ulcers.
5. Leprosy.
6. Yogurt.
7. Whooping cough.
8. Chicken pox and shingles.
9. Malaria.
10. Cervical cancer.

* Game 6, Round 8 - History - Separatism

This is *not* a Canadiana round.

1. Which African territory, which was joined to another African
country in 1936, got its independence in 1993 after 30 years
of civil war?

2. In which country """has""" the separatist movement whose initials
are ETA been most active?

3. One of the countries approved for membership in the European
Union for 2004 """has""" a separatist movement operating in it;
one other country """recognizes""" that separatist movement as
the government of an independent state. Name the country that
has been approved for EU membership in 2004.

4. Name the East Timor independence leader who became the country's
first president after independence.

5. The world came to realize that an Asian separatist leader
"""looks""" uncannily like the late US comedian Phil Silvers, who
played Sergeant Bilko, when a tourist was attacked for wearing
a Sgt. Bilko T-shirt. Who """is""" this Asian separatist leader?

6. Rebel leader Abdullah Öcalan was sentenced to death in 1999,
but his sentence was suspended after he renounced violence.
Which country sentenced him, or which ethnic group """does"""
he represent?

7. In 1830 a new country was created following a separatist uprising
against the Netherlands. What country?

8. Slovakia gained independence from the Czech Republic in January

of independent Slovakia or the prime minister (not president)
who was then in power in the Czech Republic.

9. Franjo Tudjman led his country to independence and became its
first president. What country?

10. The US and Belgium assisted Congolese separatist leader
Moishe Tshombe in murdering the deposed Congolese prime minister
in January 1961. Name him.
