These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2016-10-24,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers to the newsgroup in a single followup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

(This round is running concurrently with Current Events Rounds 1-2
of the following season.)

All questions were written by members of the Misplaced Modifiers
and are used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may
have been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information
see my 2016-11-26 companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

** Game 5, Round 9 - Canadiana - What the Blazonry?

How well do you know the Canadian coat of arms -- or to be formal
about it, the Arms of Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada?

<http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c5/Coat_of_arms_of_Canada_rendition.svg/554px-Coat_of_arms_of_Canada_rendition.svg.png>

(That's one long URL. If your newsreading environment doesn't
pick it up properly in one piece, proceed appropriately.)

1. Blazonry is the highly peculiar heraldic terminology used
to depict coats of arms. One such term is the "escutcheon".
In the Canadian coat of arms, how many sections is the escutcheon
divided into?

2. Please decode the rot13 only after you have finished with the
previous question. Va gur rfphgpurba, oynmbael qrfpevorf
gur hccre yrsg frpgvba nf sbyybjf: "thyrf guerr yvbaf cnffnag
thneqnag va cnyr be". Jung qbrf "thyrf" zrna?

3. Which symbol of the Scottish kings found on the Canadian coat
of arms can be described in blazon terms as "rampant"?

4. Identify *any one* of the four types of flowers at the base of
the Arms.

5. The flag of the governor-general is based on what element from
the Canadian coat of arms? (You must be precise; do not give
any smaller element forming just part of the correct answer,
or any larger element containing it.)

6. The most recent change to the Canadian coat of arms was the
addition of the circular inscription, commemorating the
25th anniversary of the establishment of the Order of Canada
(although the change didn't become official until a bit later).
Within 1, when was that anniversary year?

7. The circular inscription says "DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM".
What does that mean?

8. The Canadian motto, written on the ribbon at bottom, means
"From sea to sea". In 2006 the leaders of the three territories
proposed that the motto be changed -- to what? Answer in
English.

9. New coats of arms or changes to existing ones are designed or
approved by the CHA -- an office of the G-G. What does CHA mean?

10. The crown at the top of the Canadian coat of arms depicts
the official coronation crown. It's named after the second-last
Anglo-Saxon king, who was the only English king to be canonized.
Name the crown or the king.

After completing the round, please decode the rot13: Ba gur ynfg

Only two guesses are allowed. I will score this as if it read

The red lion (standing on its hind legs -- that's "rampant" --
in the top right section of the escutcheon). As you were told,
"lion" was insufficiently specific. 4 for ArenEss and Peter.

Lachine Canal. (After China.) 4 for Dan Blum.

I have seen the name variously explained either as sarcastic --
he thought was going to China and that's as near as he got to the
place -- or as deluded, like the "Indians" of North America.

Port Colborne. Oddly enough, it's south of Welland.
