These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2015-03-23,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days (from the first posting).

All questions were written by members of MI5, and are used here by
permission, but have been reformatted and may have been retyped
and/or edited by me. For further information see my 2015-02-23
companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition

* Game 10, Round 9 - Entertainment - Child Stars Who Made Good

Earlier this season we did bad marriages and relationships and badly
behaving athletes, and we all know about the child stars who became
train wrecks later in life. So for contrast, here's a round about
child stars who turned out pretty well. In each case, name them.

1. At 13, this Welsh-born actor played the starring role in "Empire
of the Sun". As an adult, he has played an "American Psycho"
and an "American Hustle"r, a super-skinny "Machinist", and Moses.
His stepmother is Gloria Steinem.

2. As a 5-year-old, this actor was kicked off "Romper Room" for
being too disruptive. At 16, he was cast as a homeless boy on
the sitcom "Growing Pains". As an adult, he has played Romeo,
Howard Hughes, and J. Edgar Hoover.

3. At 12, this actress played Bette Midler's character as a
young girl in "Beaches". In real life, she has a doctorate in
neuroscience, and now on TV she plays a dowdy neurobiologist
pining for an oddball theoretical physicist.

4. As a teen, this actor starred as "Doogie Howser M.D." As an
adult, he played Barney Stinson on TV, Hedwig on Broadway,
and a fictionalized version of himself with Harold and Kumar.
He was the host of the 2015 Oscars.

5. At 11 this actress starred in "Road to Avonlea". As an adult,
she has continued acting and has directed two movies, "Away
from Her" and "Take This Waltz", and a documentary, "Stories
We Tell", about her mother's affair with her biological father.

6. At 12, this actor appeared as an orphan boy adopted by the
Ingalls family on "Little House on the Prairie". As an adult,
he appeared in "Arrested Development", and in the movies "Juno"
and "Couples Retreat". Canadian content: he is married to
Paul Anka's daughter.

7. At 12, this actor starred alongside Hugh Grant in "About a Boy".
As an adult, he has played a romantic zombie in "Warm Bodies",
"Jack the Giant Slayer", and Beast in a couple of X-Men movies.
Until August 2014, he was Jennifer Lawrence's boyfriend.

8. At 14, this actor played Gordie in "Stand By Me", and later he
played Wesley Crusher on "Star Trek: The Next Generation".
He now appears occasionally as Sheldon's nemesis on "The Big
Bang Theory".

9. This actress debuted at age 9 in the movie "North" and came to
prominence at 13 in "The Horse Whisperer". As an adult, she has
played a servant in Vermeer's household, a neglected young wife
in Tokyo, and an alien seductress preying on men in Scotland.
She is the only woman to be twice named "Esquire" magazine's
"Sexiest Woman Alive".

10. This actress began her career as a Coppertone girl in a
TV commercial. At 13, she was a teen prostitute named Iris
in "Taxi Driver". She has won 2 Best Actress Oscars and has
directed 3 films.
