These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2017-12-05,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers to the newsgroup in a single followup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of Smith & Guessin' and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information see
my 2017-09-25 companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

** Final, Round 7 - Entertainment

That is: http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/ent.jpg

* Movie Centuries

On each question you get a list of movies that were all set in the
same century, and you just have to name that century. We will
accept answers either in the style "the 20th century" or "the
1900s", and never mind that those aren't exactly the same thing.

1. "Lady Godiva", "El Cid", "Macbeth", "Hamlet".

2. "The Column", "The Eagle", "Androcles and the Lion", "The Fall
of the Roman Empire".

3. "Kingdom of Heaven", "Becket", "Ivanhoe", "The Lion in Winter".

* Rock & Roll Trivia

4. Peter Gabriel wrote "In Your Eyes" for this American actress,
and while she was dating a member of the band Toto, they released
a song with her first name as a title. Who is she?

5. She was the muse for the song "Something" by George Harrison and
"Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton. She was married to both
men, who wrote many songs for or about her. Name her.

6. Singer Harry Nillson owned Flat #12 at 9 Curzon Square, London.
On two separate occasions he rented it out to famous friends
in the music industry, who proceeded to die there at age 32.
Name either of those pop stars who died in the flat.

* Memorable Concerts

7. On 1965-07-24 this musician played at the Newport Folk Festival.
The next day he returned, changed one aspect of this act, and
got booed off the stage. Who was he? If you want to show off,
for fun but for no points, also mention what he changed.

8. On 1967-06-18 this musician and his band appeared at the Monterey
Pop Festival. Their debut album "Are You Experienced" had just
been released. The music, guitar playing, and this musician's
performance dry-humping and burning his guitar, launched him
to immediate stardom. Who was he?

9. 1991-09-28 had this band headlining the "Monsters of Rock" free
concert at the Tushino Ariport in Moscow. The band was on
a tour promoting their 5th and latest record, titled after
the band's name but commonly known as "The Black Album".
Some estimates put the crowd at 2,000,000, the 5th-largest of
all time. Which band was it?

* Batman Villains

In each case, name the *actor or actress* seen portraying a baddie.

10. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/who/10.jpg
11. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/who/11.jpg
12. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/who/12.jpg

* This is "Jeopardy!"

13. "Jeopardy!" creator Merv Griffin also composed most of the
show's music. What's the one-word name of the tune that runs
while the contestants write their "Final Jeopardy!" answers?

14. The record for the longest winning streak on "Jeopardy!" is
held by Ken Jennings. He lost his last game by getting the
"Final Jeopardy!" question wrong (he didn't have a sufficient
lead to win regardless). He was asked: "Most of this firm's
70,000 seasonal white collar employees work only 4 months
a year"? How should he have answered? Remember, this is
"Jeopardy!".

15. Who was the original host of "Jeopardy!", from 1964 to 1975?

Bob Dylan. Switched from acoustic to electric.

In the original game, this was tied for the easiest round with
Round 4, Geography.

1000s (11th century). 4 for Dan Blum.

> 2. "The Column", "The Eagle", "Androcles and the Lion", "The Fall
> of the Roman Empire".

100s (2nd century).

The Roman Empire *started* declining in the 2nd century, but it didn't altogether fall until the 5th century, or much later if you include the Byzantine Empire as part of it. Tricky.

> 3. "Kingdom of Heaven", "Becket", "Ivanhoe", "The Lion in Winter".

1100s (12th century). 4 for Dan Blum and Dan Tilque.

In "The Lion in Winter", you may remember Katharine Hepburn as Eleanor of Aquitaine saying: "Of course he has a knife. He always has a knife. We all have knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians!"

Rosanna Arquette. I decided to accept either name. So, 4 for
Dan Blum, Marc, Erland, Joshua, and Jason.

> 5. She was the muse for the song "Something" by George Harrison and

Patti Boyd. 4 for Marc, Pete, Joshua, Dan Tilque, and Jason.

"Mama" Cass Elliot, Keith Moon. 4 for Marc and Jason.

Bob Dylan. 4 for Peter, Marc, Erland, Pete, Joshua, Dan Tilque,
and Jason.

He switched to an electric guitar. All of the above except Dan
Tilque got this too.

Jimi Hendrix. 4 for everyone -- Dan Blum, Peter, Marc, Erland,
Pete, Joshua, Dan Tilque, and Jason.

Metallica. 4 for Erland, Joshua, and Jason. 2 for Pete.

All images are either from the 1966-68 TV series "Batman" or the
1966 movie "Batman" that had the same principal cast.

> 10. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/who/10.jpg

Otto Preminger. (As Mr. Freeze, also played on the show by George
Sanders and Eli Wallach; and later by Arnold Schwarzenegger and
Nathan Darrow.) 4 for Pete.

> 11. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/who/11.jpg

Lee Meriwether. (As Catwoman, also played on the show by Julie Newmar
and Eartha Kitt; and later, if they all count, by Michelle Pfeiffer,
Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, and Camren [sic] Bicondova.) 4 for Pete.

> 12. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/who/12.jpg

Frank Gorshin. (As the Riddler, also played on the show by
John Astin; and later by Jim Carrey and Cory Michael Smith.)
4 for Dan Blum, Pete, and Jason.

"Think". 4 for Marc, Joshua, and Jason.

What is H&R Block? 4 for Dan Blum, Marc, Joshua, Dan Tilque,
and Jason.

Jennings had always *done his own taxes* and "seasonal" didn't
make him think of tax season. He guessed "What is FedEx?"

> 15. Who was the original host of "Jeopardy!", from 1964 to 1975?

Art Fleming. 4 for Marc, Pete, Joshua, and Jason.

If you aren't old enough to remember that yourself, you might still
know it from Weird Al Yankovic's song "I Lost on Jeopardy".

Sure, the guitar thing was a big deal, but I think most of the kerfuffle
was about the absolutely awesome polka dot shirt he wore for the second
gig. Seriously, its an amazing shirt.
