some usual rules:
entries must be posted by noon Philadelphia/Toronto time (gmt-4) on Monday October 6th, 2014.

please answer based only on your own knowledge and, of course, do not discuss the questions in the newsgroup before answering. the winner, or the highest finisher who is interested, will be invited to set the next RQ, using any design they like.

please post your answers to all questions in a single followup in the newsgroup, quoting the questions and placing your answer below each one. you're only allowed one attempt per question, and wrong answers will not count against you. in the event of technical difficulties, you may also enter by email.

in case of a tie, the first tiebreaker will be who got their points on the hardest questions, that is the question(s) correctly answered by the fewest entrants; the second tiebreaker is who posted first.

and now for some quotes, some of which can never be said enough.

for each of these quotes from _the princess bride_ name the *character* who said it

1. Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead.
8
Mostly dead is slightly alive.

2. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

3. Please consider me as an alternative to suicide.

for each of these quotes from _history of the world, part 1_ name the *actor* who said it

4. It's good to be the king.

5. Your Majesty, you look like the piss-boy!

6. Treasure bath!

for each of these quotes, name the *movie*

7. I don't want to see a world without Augustus Waters in it.

8. Wonderful girl. Either I'm going to kill her or I'm beginning to like her.

9. And they probably redesigned the whole sickbay, too! I know engineers, they LOVE to change things.

for each of these quotes, name the writer *or* the book (some answers may be in multiple books, all will be scored as correct if cited)

10. "Rincewind's feet made their own decision and, from the point of view of his head, got it entirely wrong."

11. "Man is not made for defeat."

12. "Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."

good luck!
