These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2013-03-04,
and should be interpreted accordingly. All questions were written
by members of the Night Owls, but have been reformatted and may
have been retyped and/or edited by me. I will reveal the correct
answers in about 3 days.

For further information, including an explanation of the """
notation that may appear in these rounds, see my 2022-09-09
companion posting on "Reposted Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (RQFTCI*)".

** Game 5, Round 9 - Miscellaneous - Stock Exchange Indexes

We name a stock market index name; you give the *city* (except
as specified) where the relevant stock exchange """is""" located.
For example, for the S&P/TSX 60 it would be Toronto. Answers may
repeat.

1. DAX.
2. SENSEX.
3. IBEX 35.
4. BOVESPA.
5. NSE NIFTY.
6. All Ordinaries.
7. CAC ["kack"] 40.
8. SSE Composite Index.
9. FTSE ["footsie"] 100.
10. KOSPI. (For this one just the name of the country will do).

** Game 5, Round 10 - Challenge Round - Firsts

* A. Canadiana History: First Leader

A1. Who became the first mayor of Toronto in 1834?

A2. In 1984, who became the first woman to hold the position

B1. "If you really want to hear about it, the first thing
you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and
what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents
were occupied and all before they had me, and all that
David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like
going into it, if you want to know the truth."

B2. "It was a pleasure to burn."

* C. Entertainment: First Nomination

C1. For which 1978 movie, starring Robert De Niro and Christopher
Walken, did Meryl Streep receive her first Oscar nomination
for Best Supporting Actress?

C2. For which 1969 movie did Jack Nicholson receive his first
nomination as Best Supporting Actor?

* D. Sports: First Base

D1. In November 1979, which All-Star pitcher was the first
player to sign a contract for more than $1,000,000 a year?

a Major League Baseball game in over 60 years?

* E. Science (yeah, right): First Message

William Lyon Mackenzie.

Someone cleverly tried guessing Yonge and Bloor. Sir George Yonge
was a cabinet member in the British government while Joseph Bloore
was an innkeeper, brewer, and founder of the village of Yorkville.

Yuri Gagarin. 4 for everyone -- Erland, Joshua, Dan Blum, Dan Tilque,

Tenzing Norgay (either word was sufficient), Sir Edmund Hillary.

Both I and Pete said Rio de Janeiro, and for this question you did
not say that the country was sufficient. Of course, you may graciously
have changed your mind on this, but I felt obliged to point it ouit
nevertheless.
